‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Battle Of Jakku Trailer Drops With ‘Force Awakens’ Music

Star Wars: Battlefront‘s first free DLC, The Battle of Jakku, is due out tomorrow for those that preordered the shooter on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. DICE dropped a new trailer for the game on Tuesday, plus a Twitch livestream to debut the new “Turning Point” large multiplayer mode. As a bonus, the new trailer uses part of John Williams’ score for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Battle of Jakku takes place on the namesake planet, following the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. It serves as a bridge between the original prequel and the new saga being kick started by Disney and director J.J. Abrams with The Force Awakens, as the following description of the trailer explains.

Experience the Battle of Jakku, the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet. Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The first Star Wars: Battlefront free DLC will feature two new maps, titled “Graveyard of Giants” and “Goazan Badlands.” The former is a large map meant for the “Walker Assault,” “Supremacy,” and “Fighter Squadron” modes, plus the new “Turning Point” mode. The latter map is for the remaining smaller player count modes, such as “Blast” and “Heroes vs. Villains.”

The setting of the new Star Wars: Battlefront DLC is a crashed Star Destroyer on the desert planet. For “Turning Point,” the Rebels are on the attack, and the Imperials must defend a hastily-constructed base and fortifications.

The Rebels will need to capture one of three control points in “Turning Point” before the clock ticks down and move forward to the next set of control points. This ultimately culminates into the Empire’s final stand in its base if the Rebels are successful in pushing forward.

Vehicles will play a large role in “Turning Point,” with Rebel airspeeders and the Imperial AT-ST playing offensive and defensive roles, respectively. The flipping of the roles is a bit of a complimentary twist on Star Wars: Battlefront, as “Walker Assault” has the Imperial Forces pushing the Rebels back in every play-through.

The Battle of Jakku is but the first of a series of free add-ons planned for Star Wars: Battlefront. As previously covered by Inquisitr, EA Studios Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund confirmed the game will have free DLC in the works in addition to the paid DLC supported by a $50 Season Pass.

“We are also planning to support Star Wars Battlefront with new content well into the future. We will be adding more of what you love about the game, like new maps and Star Cards, for free in the coming months, in addition to all of the content we have coming with Season Pass. We’ll have more to share soon,” Söderlund explained in a press release touting the game’s sales in the first week.
