Katie Brown’s Dog Still Not Rescued: Katharine Lemansky, Florida Woman Who Duct Taped Dog’s Mouth Shut, Is Missing In Connecticut

Katie Brown’s dog is still not rescued days after the Florida woman posted a Facebook photo showing how she used duct tape on her dog’s mouth. As it turns out, the name “Katie Brown” is an alias used only on Facebook. Public records reveal that she goes by either Katharine Lemansky or Katharine Plati, and there is also uncertainty about where she currently lives. Police in both Connecticut and South Daytona have tried to find the woman and her dog, but so far she is missing in both states where she is known to reside.

[UPDATE] Police have caught the so-called Katie Brown in North Carolina, but the authorities say they can’t remove the dogs from her home.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, South Daytona police were flooded with calls about the Facebook photo, which showed her dog’s mouth duct taped shut along with an explanation that said, “This is what happens when you don’t shut up.” When friends asked Katie to assure outraged Facebook people that she did not actually use duct tape on her dog, she defended her actions.

“I cant lie. [I] did it for sixty seconds. It was time out,” Brown explained. “Dont panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasn’t barked since… POINT MADE!!!”

Friends of Katie also tried defending her actions.

“People need to calm the h*** down its a f****** joke those dogs are beyond well taken care of,” Jordan Souza wrote. “Its not animal cruelty to put some tape on he mug for a min both those dogs have everything. Animal cruelty is all you stupid b****** dressing your animals up like retards there dogs not f******* dress up dolls.”

Anyone associated with the woman has been attacked on social media. For example, one of Katie Brown’s Facebook friends worked at a Connecticut business called Doggie in the Window, so suddenly the company was hit with bad reviews, including one comment that said, “You cannot be trusted with animals.”

“We have nothing but compassion for pets. I mean the postings on Facebook were accusing us [of] supporting animal cruelty, which clearly we do not support,” said Martha Hickey, who co-owns Doggie in the Window with her sister, Ellen.

“We’ve worked very, very hard to establish a solid reputation and to have one thing like this potentially ruin that, that hard work you’ve done for 10 years, yeah that hurts a lot,” said Ellen, according to NBC News.

This case of alleged animal cruelty had already become international news over the weekend, with people from Australia calling the police, but now NBC’s Today show publicized the infamous duct-taped dog photo even more.

“A woman quickly learned that she was barking up the wrong tree when she tried to teach her dog a lesson,” said Today TV show host Craig Melvin. “We should follow up by taking the dog.”

The hard part is finding the dog in the first place. The Facebook page for “Katie Brown” states that the woman is self-employed, and early in November, she posted that she was either visiting or living in Florida with her son, where she owns a second home. But when police tried to find Katherine Lemansky, her son said she should be traveling back to South Daytona from Connecticut. Authorities believe she may also be living in Avon, Connecticut, but according to My Fox 8, the Avon police said officers visited the home where the alleged animal cruelty took place and determined it did not occur in Avon.

The Facebook page for Torrington Animal Control in Connecticut also released an update that shows the uncertainty involved in the case.

“We are still diligently working on tracking down the owner who posted that dreadful picture to Facebook earlier this morning but it appears that she is no longer residing in Avon… or Connecticut for that matter. All new, and pertinent information that we get is being immediately forward to Daytona PD as that is where the suspect is believed to be living/heading.”

The City of South Daytona’s Facebook page also posted that they are working with Connecticut authorities in order to track down the woman’s dog.

“No new information on Katie Brown Facebook posting of dog. The SDPD is in contact with Avon, CT Police Department. We are still following leads. We will continue to post updates here.”

The woman may be in hiding in fear of her life. People on social media have been trying to track her down, even going so far as to post pictures of her vehicle. But ever since she posted the photo of the duct tape dog, she has received death threats, including one where a man threatened to “hold her head underwater until the bubbles stop.” According to WFLA, she has been in remote contact with authorities, assuring them that the dog is “fine and in good health.”

Katharine Lemansky has a prior criminal record. She was convicted of second-degree breach of peace in Connecticut after being arrested in May of 2015. Assuming the alleged instance of animal cruelty took place in Florida, she faces a fine of $5,000, and it’s possible she could face additional charges for not turning herself, and her dog, in to Florida or Connecticut police.
