‘Arrow’ Season 4 Is Bringing Back Colton Haynes’ Roy Harper As Arsenal, What Does This Mean For Thea Queen?

Fans of Arrow will be excited to learn that a former cast member is set to rejoin the show in its current season. According to MStarz, Colton Haynes is set to reprise his role and will be featured as a guest star when the series resumes in December.

Haynes played the part of Roy Harper for the majority of the past two seasons of the hit show. Harper proved to be a loyal friend and sidekick to the Arrow (Stephen Amell). However, after Ra’s al Ghul released Oliver Queen’s true identity, Roy came out and falsely revealed to the public that he was the Arrow. The only downside to this plan was that Roy was forced to stage his death in order to get out of prison, and then left Star City to start things fresh.

Although Roy’s departure disappointed many, fans will certainly be glad to hear that Roy will once again be a part of the show. This is something that executive producer Marc Guggenheim echoed in a recent interview with TV Line.

“We are beyond thrilled that Colton will be returning to Arrow this season,” Guggenheim shared. “It was always our intention to have him return following his departure last season, but it was a matter of finding the right storyline to pull it off. That opportunity presented itself in Episode 412, and we can’t wait for the fans to see this reunion.”

With filming for the show currently underway in Vancouver, Haynes recently sent out a message on Twitter that confirmed his part this season.

“Just landed in Vancouver to…BEGIN FILMING ON #ARROW AGAIN!!! So excited!!!” he wrote.

The only question remaining is what Roy will be up to when he makes his appearance in Star City. Although the character left Star City to start anew, it didn’t take long before Thea Queen (Willa Holland) found him and even took his crime fighting red suit with her when she returned to the city.

Since then, Thea has been wearing the suit while she does a little crime fighting of her own. This has caused her to take on the identity of Speedy and the Arrow, which likely won’t sit well with Roy. That being said, what will Roy’s return mean for Thea and her bloodlust?

More than likely, his return to the show at his time will lead to two unintended consequences. First, Roy is probably going to come face to face with Thea’s thirst for blood and will likely attempt to find a manner in which to stop her bloodlust. Given the way in which Thea has been acting in the past few episodes, this is all but a given.

In addition to witnessing the bloodlust, Roy may also discover that Thea is falling for someone else. Just how Roy reacts to finding out that the advisor for Oliver’s campaign has his eyes set on Thea will be another interesting element to watch unfold as Roy makes his return.

With that in mind, Wendy Mericle also hinted that Roy may quickly find himself in some fairly difficult situations when he returns to Star City.

“He could come back into her life at some inopportune moments potentially,” she stated. “It’ll be an interesting dynamic to see.”

Meanwhile, whatever happens with Roy in the coming episode, it is certainly going to be exciting to watch the character return to the show. The only disappointing fact is that Hayne’s appearance as a guest star will be short lived, and, depending on what happens between him and Thea, it isn’t clear when he’ll be back.

The fourth season of Arrow is set to continue December 2 with a crossover episode with The Flash on The CW.
