Jeff Daniels Drops Out: “Dumb and Dumber” Sequel Officially Kaput

Dumb and Dumber 2 has officially been cancelled. What was all that one in a million talk?

I was pleased as peaches when it was announced that Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey had agreed to do a sequel to 90’s milestone and cult classic Dumb and Dumber. It was a long shot. After all, the project comes almost two decades after the first film. Would there really be any interest? I guess it didn’t matter, it all seemed possible, and all the right people were signed on. This wasn’t going to be another When Harry Met Lloyd.

Until Jim Carrey dropped out.

Carrey was apparently disenchanted with New Line and Warner Bros. big-wigs, who apparently “showed a lack of enthusiasm” about the sequel, which would have been titled Dumb and Dumber To. “I would have thought ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ was a no-brainer,” said Carrey. “After all, it’s implied in the title.” Apparently though, there was still some hope that maybe the film could come together and they could talk Carrey into coming back.

Until Jeff Daniels dropped out.

Reports TMZ, the movie is pretty much done without either of its original stars. Nothing was officially over without Jim Carrey, but Jeff Daniels doesn’t seem like he wants to fight for the film either. It wasn’t known for sure whether Daniels would stay on, talk with Carrey, etc., but last night in Hollywood he confirmed the movie was over. “Dumb and Dumber To is like a parakeet without a head… dead.”
