‘The Walking Dead’ Recap: Carl Survives Ron, But Will Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon Survive Negan? [Spoilers]

The end of Alexandria has begun. In this The Walking Dead recap, we discuss several potential spoilers related to Carl and Ron, and whether or not Jessie and Sam will cause the group to get into trouble due to Sam’s crying. There is also the possibility that The Walking Dead’s Daryl Dixon may be in trouble very shortly, which would cause the Norman Reedus fans to riot.

Practically everyone is scrambling for their lives during the mid-season finale. Rick and several others hide in a house. Maggie manages to escape up a ladder. Eugene is seen hiding, although he cries for help on the radio, which we heard at the end of a previous episode. Carol and Morgan even briefly team up for the fight against the horde of walkers streaming in through the newly opened gap in the wall.

The only exception seems to be Glenn and Enid. Despite all the build up related to Glenn’s “death” scene, the character is MIA for the finale. He does talk to Enid about Maggie’s pregnancy, and they also climb a tree, but not much else happens.

The action picks up again with the Alpha Wolf. Morgan and Carol end up literally fighting over the man’s fate, but this only allows the Wolf to take Denise hostage. But the main action focuses on the fate of Deanna, who manages to get bitten during the undead invasion.

[Warning: Spoilers based upon rumors are contained beyond this point.]

To a limited extent, the events of the TV show do mirror the comics in some ways. Deanna, who was known as Douglas Monroe in the comics, does go out in a blaze of glory before the walkers finish her off, but in the process she manages to avoid shooting Carl Grimes’ eye out like Douglas did. Many The Walking Dead spoilers articles fully expected that Ron might shoot Carl in the head during this recent episode, but that’s not exactly how events played out.

Instead, Ron gives up on all hope, saying, “They’re dead, and you’re dead, too.” Ron attempts to shoot Carl, but instead they have a loud fight which attracts walkers into the house. In the confusion, Ron manages to grab another gun, but Carl pulls his own weapon on Jessie’s son in order to disarm him.

“I get it, my dad killed your dad,” Carl tells Ron. “But you need to know something. Your dad was an a**hole.”

This means that Carl’s eye has survived the mid-season TWD finale, but it doesn’t mean Carl won’t lose his eye in the future. The last time we saw Rick, Carl, Michonne, Gabriel, Ron, Sam, and Jessie, they were about to step out into the streets while covered by zombie guts. In the comics, this was what happened shortly before the accidental shooting by Douglas Monroe, so it’s possible Carl’s eye will be lost during the February premiere of the second half of The Walking Dead Season 6.

The Spoiling Dead Fans claims that the fateful moment will come during Episode 9.

“After checking with other sources it appears the Jessie/Carl moment from the comic will be in episode 9. The cliffhanger should be Rick and the others exiting the house with their walker ponchos on and walking through the herd.”

In the comics, the death of Ron and Jessie Anderson occurred directly before Carl was accidentally shot. In this version of the story, Jessie refused to let go of Carl’s arm as the zombies begin tearing into her, so Rick is forced to cut off her arm. If this scene does occur, then The Walking Dead rumors suggest it is possible Sam will die shortly before Jessie, and after she loses her arm Ron goes berzerk, grabs a gun, and shoots at both Carl and Rick.

There’s other reasons to expect Carl to lose an eye. The Walking Dead spoilers have shown leaked photos of Chandler Rigg wearing an eye bandage. The question is whether Carl will eventually lose his eye to Ron, an accidental shooting, or perhaps even Negan.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Meets Negan

A special prologue video for the second half of The Walking Dead Season 6 seems to show Negan confronting Daryl Dixon, Abraham, and Sasha.

The leader of this group announces his presence in the third person, saying, “Your property now belongs to Negan.”

“Your weapons, your truck, the fuel in your truck, if you got mints in your glove compartment, if you got corn underneath the seat, change in the seats, hell, the seats themselves, the floor mats, your maps, little stash of emergency napkins you got there in the console. None of those things are yours anymore,” says Negan.

What comes next is anyone’s guess. The Daryl Dixon character is not in the comics, but the show runners have long teased fans by threatening to kill off Norman Reedus’ character. The fact that Daryl has already been captured by Negan does not bode well for the character’s future.

In the comics, Glenn is killed by Negan with a barbed wire baseball bat, but some fans speculate that Daryl will serve as a substitute for Glenn. There is even video evidence supporting this idea since a leaked video shows Negan swinging a bat at someone next to Glenn.

If the show runners do decided to go this route, then it’s likely Daryl will live until at least The Walking Dead’s Season 6 finale. After all, wouldn’t everyone come streaming back for The Walking Dead Season 7 if it seems that Daryl’s life is hanging in the balance?
