Jimmy Graham Injury Update: Seattle Seahawks Lose Graham To Leg Injury

Jimmy Graham injury updates have come from the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks have lost Graham for the season after he suffered a torn patella tendon against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The injury came in the third quarter of a 39-30 victory over the Steelers on Sunday, November 29. Graham had put up some great numbers for the Seahawks, catching four passes for 75 yards by that point. His night came to an end, though, when he came down awkwardly in the end zone trying to catch a touchdown pass.

The injury update on Graham came directly from Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. Speaking in a press conference following the game, he talked about how Graham is going to require surgery on the leg and will be lost for the rest of the NFL season. During the interview, Carroll stated that, “We’re gonna miss the heck out of him for the rest of the season.”

Jimmy Graham was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks through an offseason trade with the New Orleans Saints. The Seahawks had to give up Pro Bowl center Max Unger and a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft to make it happen. The idea was that he would provide Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson with a primary target in the middle of the field.

Through 11 games with the Seahawks this season, Jimmy Graham caught 48 passes for 605 yards and two touchdowns. It was certainly possible that he could have become a 1,000-yard player at the tight end position this year. The injury comes at an unfortunate time as well, because Wilson was doing a great job at involving Graham more often in games. He was extremely important early in the week 12 game against the Steelers, but that came to a crashing halt in the end zone.

This Jimmy Graham injury update is also coming at a bad time for fantasy football owners, as league playoffs are coming soon. Graham won’t be back during the regular season, meaning it is time for owners to drop him and find someone in free agency unless they are part of a keeper or dynasty league. It’s an unfortunate turn of events, as Graham came into the season as one of the top tight ends on draft day. Several players have surpassed him in value during the fantasy football season, but he was always a threat to score a touchdown or two.

The Seattle Seahawks have dealt with a number of severe injuries this season and it has just continued through week 12. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Marshawn Lynch had to have surgery on a sports hernia. He is now going to miss at least four games, with the possibility that he could also miss the rest of the season. Rumors have stated that Lynch may have also played his final game for the Seahawks, especially if he does not recover from his surgery quickly enough to participate in the 2015 NFL Playoffs.

As also previously reported by the Inquisitr, the Seattle Seahawks have moved into the No. 6 playoff spot in the NFC with this victory over the Steelers. The team is going to have to find a way to build off this momentum with a very important game against the Minnesota Vikings in week 13. That will require working a new starting tight end into the play calling. There will likely be an official press release including more on the Jimmy Graham injury update, but for now fans should count on him being out through the rest of the year. That’s an unfortunate piece of news for the two-time defending NFC champions
