A Mother, Father, And Two Toddler Sons Found Dead In Horrific Thanksgiving Murder-Suicide
A horrific alleged murder-suicide took place in a Louisiana home over the Thanksgiving weekend. The mother, 40-year-old Kelli Mata, was found stabbed to death next to her 46-year-old husband David. Meanwhile, upstairs the bodies of the couple’s two toddler sons, 2-year-old Liam and 4-year-old Caden, were found stabbed to death in their beds. The mother’s 18-year-old daughter came home to the horrifying scene following a hunting trip. She immediately called for help and police have called the horrific act a murder-suicide but did not disclose further details.
According to the Daily Mail, the 18-year-old daughter of Kelli and David Mata came home on Sunday to find her parents and two toddler brothers dead. The mother and her two sons were found stabbed to death while the father, David, died in an unspecified manner. The police are calling the crime a murder-suicide but did not disclose who is believed to have killed the rest of the family before committing suicide. However, the police did note that Kelli was stabbed to death while they did not release a cause-of-death for David.
The police note that the teenage daughter immediately fled the property after discovering the deceased bodies and immediately phoned 911 for help. WWL-TV reports that the incident took place over the Thanksgiving weekend on Sunday at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time. No motive is currently known for the alleged murder-suicide, and it was reported that the family had no history of domestic violence calls to the home in question.
Though the Marrero, Louisiana, address had no history of domestic disputes, it was noted that the family had only recently moved to the area and lived in the house for a short six months. Neighbors around the Mata home say that the pair kept to themselves and that they did not really know the new family to the neighborhood.
David Mata had a prior arrest for cocaine possession in 2003 for which he pleaded guilty, while a domestic disturbance had been filed against Kelli Mata in the past. The police are not releasing any further details about the horrific Thanksgiving weekend murder-suicide, but note that they believe the killer died in the home along with the three murder victims from a self-inflicted injury. The police have yet to release information about the alleged killer only noting that Kelli and the two toddler boys died of stab wounds while David died of an undisclosed cause.
After word of the terrible tragedy reached the friends and family of Kelli and David Mata, friends began showing their support and confusion online. One friend said she was “absolutely heart broken” following the horrible murder-suicide and that she doesn’t know how to handle the news. She shared a photo taken of the two toddler boys killed in the tragedy along with the caption.
“Absolutely heart broken… Never experienced something like this and not sure how to handle the news! I can’t even comprehend what happen to those poor sweet beautiful babies and my sweet friend. RIP”
Meanwhile, it seems that the local Oak Forest Community Association is holding a prayer vigil for the Mata family this evening at 5:00 p.m. Everyone in the community was urged to attend, and the event was being led by Pastor Kenneth Antoine.
The sheriff’s office says they are still investigating the case.
