Mary-Kate Olsen, 29, Marries Olivier Sarkozy, 46, In Intimate Ceremony With 50 Guests, ‘Bowls Of Cigarettes’

Mary-Kate Olsen is officially married. The Olsen twin has allegedly tied the knot to her French banker boyfriend. Olsen has been dating Sarkozy for three years but it wasn’t easy for Sarkozy to get Mary-Kate to commit. The smitten Sarkozy was forced to propose twice before Mary-Kate accepted his second proposal in March of 2014. Now, it appears the pair have officially wed in a private ceremony that took place at a private residence in New York City.

The Daily Mail reports that Mary-Kate Olsen married Olivier Sarkozy in a very intimate ceremony in Manhattan. The pair have been engaged since March of 2014, when Mary-Kate accepted Sarkozy’s second proposal that came while the pair were on a romantic vacation in Jamaica. Olsen was given a 4-carat vintage Cartier diamond ring to mark the special occasion.

The couple have been tight-lipped about their wedding plans with Olsen showing no signs of urgency when speaking about the possible wedding date. When asked by Women’s Wear Daily about her wedding plans back in May, Olsen noted that she planned to design her own gown and that she would probably make two or three gowns for consideration but that it “seems kind of far away.”

“I’m, like, not even there yet. I think it may be a matter of getting five or six or making two or three and being stressed out. That seems kind of far away. We’ll take one step at a time.”

Though Mary-Kate had given no indication of a time-frame for her wedding, sources close to the pair had disclosed that a June, 2016, wedding was on the table. However, it seems that Mary-Kate and Sarkozy had other plans. The intimate wedding took place on Friday night in a private residence in Manhattan located on 49th Street, between Second and Third avenues.

A source says that guests were provided cocktails in a garden at the back of the property before being escorted indoors for a full dinner. The ceremony was extremely private with Mary-Kate and Olivier requiring all guests to turn in their cellphones upon entrance to the event. The wedding had some unusual decor, with a source claiming the decor consisted of “bowls and bowls of cigarettes.” The guest claims that “everyone smoked the whole night.”

Though the pair have a somewhat large age gap, Mary-Kate Olsen is 29, while new husband Olivier Sarkozy is 46, the French banker’s friends seem to love Olsen calling her funny and sweet. The private couple have been seen at numerous sporting events together and live together in a $13.5 million apartment in Manhattan, but attempt to remain under the radar.

Sarkozy is a French banker who is also the brother of the former French president. Sarkozy has two children, ages 11 and 13, from a previous marriage but this is Mary-Kate’s first marriage. Those close to Sarkozy say that his children approved of the engagement and that all of those close to Sarkozy are supportive.

With the wedding out of the way, it is unclear if Mary-Kate will share any photos from her big day. The Olsen twins are notoriously private and the sharing of private details regarding a wedding are likely not to be made public. However, with Mary-Kate telling the Women’s Wear Daily that she planned to design her own dress, fans of the Olsen twins are likely expecting a reveal of at least the dress itself following the private nuptials.

Does Mary-Kate Olsen’s intimate wedding ceremony featuring “bowls and bowls of cigarettes” surprise you? Do you think Mary-Kate Olsen will reveal her wedding dress design to the public to increase awareness of her brand The Row?
