Nicki Minaj Turns Into A Model — But Only For Her Own Collection!

Nicki Minaj is a woman of many talents.

Well, there is nothing to worry about if you are a Nicki Minaj fan. She is not giving up her musical career and choosing another vocation — that might be too much of a gamble — but now she appears rather set to share her colorful tastes with the world.

Anybody who has followed Nicki’s progress over the last few years — from being a hip teenager to becoming the most widely known female rapper in the world — would know that she is a woman who likes to be eccentric in her own way. Minaj is no Miley Cyrus, of course (imagine that!), but her skin color, her eclectic taste in fashion, and her outgoing personality has seen her become the subject of much of the race and gender discourse that surrounds pop music culture these days.

And while those are the things that have won the Pinkprint emcee the adoration of millions of music fans around the world, it now appears Minaj is ready to go the extra mile — if that extra mile only means modeling for her own collection.

As HipHopDX reports, Nicki Minaj posted several pictures of herself modeling her Nicki Minaj Couture Collection, which premiered at Kmart on Friday. What sets this collection apart from others is the fact that it derives a lot from Minaj herself, her boldness, and her completely unapologetic personality.

“The Couture Collection features elegant fabrics, supple leathers and sexy laces sourced from Europe and beyond,” Nicki Minaj says about the collection on the official website.

So it is Minaj’s attempts to create a fusion in fashion the could actually take her brand places, as is the case with her music. She is not afraid to “mix it up” — and that should not come as a complete surprise, either. After all, Nicki was not born in the United States herself, but was raised in Saint James and South Jamaica before finally moving to New York later in life. So, Minaj will always have the outsider’s perspective, and that is probably a blessing in disguise.

Meanwhile, there has been strong criticism in some quarters about how the white-majority media tends to fabricate stories about Nicki Minaj, almost always portraying her as the “angry black diva” without there actually being proof on most occasions.

Recently, stories appeared in several gossip columns and media outlets about how Nicki had “shaded” Jennifer Lopez at the AMAs. Apparently, Lopez had opened the ceremonies with a medley of the year’s biggest tracks, including Minaj’s “Anaconda.” When Minaj’s track came on and the camera panned to the star, as Daily Beast reported, it revealed Nicki’s expressionless face looking absentmindedly at the camera.

Unfortunately, this was taken as definitive proof by many on social media to reach the conclusion that Nicki Minaj had in fact “shaded” Lopez at the AMAs.

In the aftermath of the social media attacks, Nicki came out with a curt reply, not even paying attention to the stories floating on the internet, merely replying with a suggestive “Lol” on one of her social media accounts. It appears Nicki Minaj has grown accustomed to the biased reportage by the media, and her indifferent — but perhaps damning — one-word reply was all that needed to be said about the matter from her point of view.

Now that Nicki Minaj has featured as a model for her own collection, there is a possibility that she might be ridiculed for that too on social media, but if it happens, we can all expect what her reply might be.

Meanwhile, she can only hope that her turn towards modeling will only help her fuse her music and fashion into a wholesome Nicki Minaj affair.
