Vladimir Klitschko Loses To Tyson Fury

Vladimir Klitschko loses to Tyson Fury, and a new world heavyweight champion in boxing has been crowned, according to ESPN.

The ESPIRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, was the location for a huge boxing fight this weekend. Klitschko, whom the crowd was fully behind, was defending the world heavyweight championship against Fury. Since many felt that the long-reigning champion was going to continue his extended winning streak, Fury walked into the ring as a heavy underdog despite being 12 years younger than the champion. Very few people gave Fury a legitimate chance to win.

At 39 years of age, experts believed that Klitschko would eventually start to decline. Apparently, the Ukrainian star chose this particular fight to be the start of that decline. Fury was far from being dominant. In fact, Tyson didn’t look all that good against Vladimir. It was just that Fury was able to remain busier by landing more punches and staying quick on his feet than Klitschko. When the final bell rang, everyone involved knew that a new champion was being crowned.

What’s Next For Vladimir Klitschko?

Klitschko has himself quite the resume. Out of the 68 professional fights that he has had, the man known as Dr. Steelhammer has notched 64 victories, 53 of which were via knockout. Klitschko has represented his home country and brought home the gold medal for the Ukraine during the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Vladimir has enough championships and trophies to fill up an entire room in his house, so it would be hard to blame him if he opted to walk away from boxing.

Retirement is definitely an option for Klitschko. Vladimir has gone more than a decade without being defeated. He has defended his title routinely during that stretch of time. Fatigue is definitely a factor.

What’s Next For Tyson Fury?

From the moment of his conception, it appeared that Fury was destined for the world of professional boxing. His father was “Gypsy” John Fury, who not only competed in boxing but also did bareknuckle fighting and unlicensed boxing. Tyson is also related to Andy Lee and Hughie Fury, both of whom are professional boxers. When he was born in 1988, his parents named him after Mike Tyson, who was on the top of the sports world at that point in time.

Fury has had 25 professional fights in his career, all of which were victories. A solid 18 of those fights were won via knockout, which shows that the 27-year-old can be dominant in the ring at times. Despite being undefeated, Fury is far from being viewed as the best boxer on the planet. That is going to be something that the second generation fighter will want to change. If he ever wants to be viewed anywhere near the same level as Iron Mike, then Fury is going to have to tear through a litany of challengers.

Fortunately for Fury, there are plenty of challengers looming. Guys like Alexander Povetkin, the undefeated Deontay Wilder, Kubrat Pulev, Bryant Jennings, and Canadian star Bermane Stiverne are waiting for their chance at the title. Those five fighters have a combined five losses between them, so it will not be an easy task for Fury to remain on the throne. Tyson doesn’t have the legendary punching power that his namesake possessed, but he is technically sound.

Do you think Tyson Fury can prove that his victory over Vladimir Klitschko was not a fluke and become one of the best boxers ever?
