Viral videos may come in all shapes and sizes, but this one is probably something you are not going to come across again anytime soon.

Uploaded on November 7, the above viral video allegedly shows the moment a terrorist was blown up during filming a propaganda video, according to Metro. Reports suggest that the explosion seen in the video was a result of a direct mortar shell hit, but those reports could not be confirmed.

Since it surfaced online at the beginning of the month, the video has gone viral on the internet (courtesy: social media), being viewed more than a million times on YouTube alone.

The 40-second video shows a man, dressed in combat gear, speaking to the camera describing how his Islamist allied group Ajnad al-Sham had captured Tal Sukayk in the Hama countryside.

“Thank God, it turned out to be easier than we thought despite the fact that this position was very important,” he says at the beginning of the viral video.

Just when it appears he is about to explain further, a massive explosion fatally hits both the fighter and his cameraman.

As you can see in the video, a blinding orange light fills the screen, while the screams of the fighters can be heard in the background. The cameraman falls and the camera tips over, and the screams of those hit with the explosion continue till the end of the viral video.

According to Mail Online, the video allegedly shows a member of the Ajnad al-Sham being struck by bombardment instigated by one of its rivals – a pro-Assad group in Syria – called the Syrian Arab Army.

The Syrian Arab Army is fighting against a number of Islamist groups in Syria and is assisted by the Assad regime and Russian forces, in coalition with Al-Qaeda backed groups Jabhat al-Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham.

Further investigation has revealed that the cameraman Ahmed Abu Hamza, who was also killed in the attack, hailed from Hama and had been employed at the University of Damascus, according to his social media profile. Hamza has also been described as a “Syrian media activist” representing al-Nusra and possibly other extremist groups in Syria.

Several of Hamza’s colleagues and his friends paid tribute to him on his Facebook page, praising his bravery and “beautiful smile.”

Syria has been the sight of a bloody civil war since 2011, and with more than 200,000 casualties since the beginning of the war, it is one of the most violent places on earth. Numerous Islamist groups fighting against the establishment and pro-Assad regimes have been vying for power in the region, prompting a huge refugee crisis that now engulfs the Western world.

Though shell bombings and explosions are almost routine in Syria, the proliferation of disturbing videos is a trend, which seems to have caught on during the last few months.

Apart from the disturbing viral video above, several others have also surfaced online in recent times, with some reportedly showing beheadings and executions carried out by some of the terrorist groups, including ISIS.

The terrorists killed in the above attack were mistakenly reported to belong to the ISIS by some media outlets earlier, but those claims have since been refuted.
