‘Toy Story 4’ Not About ‘Printing Money,’ Pixar’s John Lasseter Claims

Toy Story 4 is confirmed and the plot has been set, although not many details have been released. It has been confirmed that Woody and Buzz Lightyear will return in another wacky adventure and they will be going to search for Bo Peep, who, it was revealed in Toy Story 3, was sold along with a few other toys.

Cinema Blend reported that another character who is returning is Trixie, the triceratops. Kristen Schaal, who has done Trixie’s voice in the past, has confirmed Trixie’s return.

“Yeah, Trixie is going to be returning… I have no details at all. They just told me I was back and I was thrilled.”

More recently, Cinema Blend confirmed that Patricia Arquette is in early negotiations to play the role of a mother in Toy Story 4. At this point, there have been no details released as to which mother Arquette will play, whether she will replace one of the previous actresses in the role of Bonnie’s or Andy’s mother, or if she will play a mom that is new to the movie.

While few details are forthcoming about the casting and plot of the movie, the Christian Post reports that John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer at Pixar, has said they are “thrilled” to make Toy Story 4.

“We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee, and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie — and I wanted to direct it myself.”

CNBC reports that Lasseter also confirmed that Toy Story 4 will involve some romance between Woody and Bo Peep.

“It’s a love story with Woody and — and this is news — Bo Peep.”

Lasseter also said they only do sequels to movies if they have something at least as good as previous movies.

“At Pixar and at Disney, we only make sequels if we come up with a story that’s as good or better than the original. That’s our rule. We don’t do things just to print money.”

Movie Pilot stated that, despite what some fans might think, Toy Story 4 will be completely separate from the other Toy Story movies, and other Pixar movies in general. Not only do many fans think they will all be related, many fans believe that all Pixar movies actually take place in the same universe, and characters from one could, theoretically, cross over into another movie. The theory some people have put forward is quite extensive, such as what can be seen in the video.

Pete Docter, writer for Toy Story 4, and the other Toy Story movies, has said no, all movies are in separate worlds.

“Well, I don’t want to spoil anybody’s fun. I’m flattered that people spend time thinking about this [but] we really try to create very distinct worlds in each film. So for [those who think the] characters from Monsters[would] show up in The Incredibles is kind of a design… it breaks my head a little bit to be honest.”

Regardless of what Toy Story 4 has in store for fans, it is guaranteed to be nothing less than fantastic. There will be a blend of the classic Toy Story humor, love, and a crazy adventure that will have the toys and the audience on the edge of their seats. Fans will just have to wait until the 2018 release date to see it! But in the meantime, Woody and Buzz fans can follow the latest official updates on Tour Story 4 on the official Twitter feed.
