‘The National Dog Show’ 2015 Airs After ‘Macy’s Day Parade’ On Thanksgiving Day

If you’re looking for something to watch on television with your family on Thanksgiving Day after the Macy’s Day Parade, the National Dog Show 2015, presented by Purina, airs from noon to 2:00 in all times zones on NBC.

As reported by AL.com, the National Dog Show competition actually took place last weekend in Oaks, Pennsylvania. The event took place in the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, and is considered one of the three major dog shows in the United States (along with the Eukanuba National Championship and the Westminster Dog Show). Since the show is not airing live, NBC can conveniently air it at noon in all time zones in the United States this Thanksgiving Day.

One change this year, as confirmed by MovieFone, is that this year’s National Dog Show will introduce seven new American Kennel Club (AKC) dog breeds to the show. The new dog breeds include the Bergamasco (a sheepdog known for a unique coat of hair), Spanish Water Dog (known for hunting, herding and water work), Miniature American Shepherd (a small herding dog known for it’s energy and intelligence), Lagotto Romagnolo (a powerful retrieving water dog with a dense coat), Berger Picard (an athletic herding dog with a shaggy topcoat and dense undercoat), Cirneco dell’Etna (a hunter of small mammals and fowl that is closely related to the Pharaoh Hound), and Boerboel (a strong working dog with a blocky head).

Hosted on NBC for the fourteenth year, the show is sponsored by Nestlé Purina PetCare, makers of pet foods such as Purina Dog Chow, Friskies, Beneful, and Purina ONE.

The National Dog Show 2015 will be hosted by actor John O’Hurley. O’Hurley is most commonly recognized as the character J. Peterman from NBC’s Seinfeld, and as the host of Family Feud from 2006-2010.

In a video produced by NBC, O’Hurley had this to say about the annual dog show.

“This is year fourteen for us and the show. This is good programming. Everybody is happy. If you’re four years old or you’re ninety-four, there’s something for you in the Dog Show. And this year, we have something special.”

That something special is a tie-in promotion for NBC: Shanice Williams, who plays Dorothy in NBC’s upcoming The Wiz Live!, will be making an appearance along with Toto.

At the dog show, each dog will be judged in three rounds (best of breed, best of group and best in show). The seven new breeds added to this year’s show helped bring the total number of dogs to 199.

The National Dog Show has been an annual event since 1879. As noted by Bleacher Report, it is a conformation dog show and is hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, a founding member of the sanctioning body, the American Kennel Club.

Along with host John O’Hurley, David Frei (AKC-licensed judge and Westminster Dog Show host) will provide analysis for the show, with contributions from Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski, Mary Carillo, and Johnny Weir, all from NBC Sports.

You can also live stream the National Dog Show courtesy of NBC Sports. NBC will also air an encore the following day, Friday, November 27, from 7-9 p.m. CST.
