‘Bones’ Spoilers: Buck And Wanda’s Next Case, A ‘Heartbreaking, Unimaginable Loss,’ And More

Unfortunately for Bones fans, there are a couple of breaks in the future. Currently, there are a couple weeks until the next new episode, and then after the last two Season 11 episodes of 2015 air, there’s another break. While FOX has announced its midseason schedule, it doesn’t include the procedural drama’s return, so it’s impossible to say how long that break will be. (The network has American Idol airing on Thursdays this winter, and there are also new series like the X-Files revival, Lucifer, and Second Chance added to the schedule during the week.)

In good Bones Season 11 news, the next two episodes will be airing back to back on December 10. The first hour will see Booth and Brennan reprising their undercover personas of Buck and Wanda in “The Cowboy in the Contest.” The second will see the investigation into a cop who was murdered, and a behavioral analyst will be working with Booth on the case.

As you can see in the promo for Bones Season 11 Episodes 9 and 10 below, Booth and Brennan are going undercover at an Old West-style shooting competition. What will happen during the high noon shootout?

The undercover episodes have always been entertaining, though this time, something will be different. As TV Guide has reported, Buck and Wanda aren’t together this time, and while Booth is into going undercover again, Brennan isn’t, as executive producer Michael Peterson has revealed.

“She’s like, ‘This is a waste of time. You just want to wear a silly cowboy hat and guns.’ She doesn’t believe that it’s actually necessary for the case, so she doesn’t join him initially. She comes in later, but it changes the dynamic…. This time they’re getting to play strangers to one another. They’ve been married for so long and to get to see each other in a different dynamic was a fun opportunity we wanted to take.”

On a show that’s 11 seasons in and multiple seasons into getting its main couple together, this should be interesting to see, and it does look to be teased in the preview considering Booth’s reaction to Brennan’s assertion that she is a quick draw. How will they do pretending to be strangers? And though Brennan is opposed to going undercover this time, will the experience change her mind?

In somewhat not good news, there’s trouble ahead for other Bones couples in Season 11. Remember when Sebastian Kohl asked Cam out and she wasn’t sure because of Arastoo? She even admitted to Angela that she’s worried she’ll never find what she had with Arastoo with someone else. She did call Sebastian at the end of that episode, but what’s in their future? According to TV Guide, her “involvement” with him “takes an interesting turn that makes things more than a little awkward” after Arastoo, who left for other career opportunities after Brennan returned, returns in the second episode.

In other Bones Season 11 relationship news, there’s “another twist” coming that “seriously” tests Hodgins and Angela’s marriage. Considering how happy everyone was at the end of the Thanksgiving episode – though it’s hard not to wonder if Hodgins is going to destroy that USB drive like Booth told him to or if that will come back to haunt them – and that Angela told Brennan that she was thinking about having another kid, it’s hard not to feel like that may have been the calm before the storm.

Furthermore, TVLine has teased that the second episode of the fall finale, “The Doom in the Boom,” “will find one of our regulars sustaining a heartbreaking, unimaginable loss.” Is that at all related to Angela and Hodgins’ marriage being tested, or is that putting pieces together that don’t quite fit?

The next two Bones Season 11 episodes air Thursdays at 8 p.m. on FOX.
