Boy, 7, And Parents Shot Dead During Ohio Home Invasion

A boy, 7, and his parents were shot dead during a home invasion in Ohio. A neighbor allegedly committed the crime against the victims — critically wounding the boy’s sister.

NBC News reports that officers responded around 5 p.m., ET on Monday to a report of a shooting in the area of Columbus, according to the Columbus Division of Police. The tragedy unfolded inside their home on the west side of the city.

Officers wound up chasing the suspect before shooting him. He later died at a hospital. Authorities identify him as Barry Kirk, 50. No officers were injured in the shooting.

It was after the man was shot that police discovered the 7-year-old boy and his parents dead inside their residence after the home invasion.

Police say Kirk was a neighbor of the victims. The victims were identified as John Anderson, 31, Christine Anderson, 30, and their son, Landon, 7.

Police sources said that the wounded victim of the home invasion is girl about 12-years-old. She was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

“I don’t know if this was a home invasion, if he was let into the house, if they knew the suspect,” Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner said. “That’s all of the questions that the investigator is going to be asking.”

Fox News reports that a woman called the Columbus Dispatch around 5 p.m. local time saying that her husband had been shot by an intruder who was still inside the home. The dispatcher recalled hearing more shots being fired during the call.

When police shot at the suspect, they found a firearm near his body.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that 7-year-old boy and his parents were killed at their home located on the 90 block of S. Terrace Avenue, south of W. Broad Street and north of Olive Street.

Weiner said that Kirk was running out of the Anderson home back across the street when police arrived on the scene. He was shot multiple times by the side of his house.

Three officers fired their guns at Kirk. A neighbor claims she heard at least 20 shots fired.

Weiner said investigators are trying to determine what led to the home invasion. So far, authorities have no clues as to what the motive was.

Detectives were able to talk to the 12-year-old daughter. She’s expected to make a full recovery.

The children’s grandmother, Kim Cremeans, was suppose to pick them up at 6 p.m. She and the rest of the family were distraught, screaming: “Why did they shoot my baby? Why would someone go in and murder a family?”

Cremeans said she just spent a wonderful weekend with her family, and now they’re gone. She said that her son and daughter-in-law were hard-working people and made raising their children a priority.

In the past year, John Anderson started his own driveway blacktop business. It was reportedly going well. His brother, who declined to give his name, said that John had a number of weapons in the house, but police said there wasn’t any evidence that he’d fired a gun.

“He was a damn good dude, definitely,” his brother said.

It was just last week that a terrible tragedy broke out in Texas when a family was murdered by a crazed gunman who shot a family that included young children. Their bodies were found at a private campsite.
