‘Sister Wives’ Recap: Kody Brown’s Kids Say They Won’t Live A Polygamous Lifestyle, Meri Talks About Being Catfished In Tell-All Special

Season 6 of TLC’s Sister Wives has come to a close, and in the tell-all special, which aired on Sunday, November 22, Kody Brown; his wives, Meri, Robyn, Christine, and Janelle; and his children opened up about the scandals of the season, including Meri being catfished, and Kody legally marrying Robyn and adopting her children from a previous marriage. The older Brown children also opened up about their plans for later in life, revealing that they do not plan to live a polygamous lifestyle like their parents.

During the interview, conducted by Today show’s Tamron Hall, Meri spoke candidly about her online relationship with a person named “Sam.” Meri revealed earlier this year that she had been catfished by a woman pretending to be someone she wasn’t, although Sam still insists he is a man. Meri said the relationship started when she was going through a very vulnerable time, as she was divorcing Kody so he could marry his fourth wife, Robyn. Despite the lies and secrets, Meri’s family stuck by her, and they have all taken steps to move past her mistake.

“He started saying all the right things,” Meri explained of how her relationship with Sam started. “He started saying very flattering comments and expressing affection and love to me and I fell for it. I started to love who he was portraying himself to be.”

Meri said she quickly started noticing “cracks” in his stories, and said he would send pictures of an actor and say it was him. She said Sam also had a very “tech savvy” friend that had threatened to hack into her and her family’s personal technological devices, and that is when, Meri said, she started distancing herself from the rest of her family.

“I was scared of what they could do because they were showing it,” Meri said. “I felt very threatened by them.”

While Meri said she never met Sam, she did say she met his female friend, who again threatened to steal her information from her cell phone. Meri also detailed another instance when Sam called her and told her he knew her exact location, making her fear for her safety.

Meri admitted that she loved this fictional person, but said she never intended to leave her family for him. After it was revealed that she had been catfished, Meri said she could see that Sam’s plan was to destroy the Brown family, and that wasn’t going to happen. As for Kody, he said he has forgiven his wife.

“This is somebody who I see was trying to exploit her, to literally harm our family and find some way to damage our children,” Kody said. “So nothing but forgiveness in this case. I see it as a flirt. So what.”

On a completely different subject, Kody’s children opened up about whether or not they would follow in their parent’s footsteps and live a polygamous lifestyle. There was pretty much a consensus among the group, with the majority saying they do not plan to be polygamists.

Kody and Meri’s only child, Mariah, admitted first that she had no plans of being a sister wife, Us Weekly reports.

“I think I’ve just grown a lot over the past few years and taken a step back and maybe thought more about what I want and how I want my life to turn out,” Mariah, 20, said.

Kody and Christine’s son, Aspyn, 20, agreed with his half-sister, and said, “I’m the same. I don’t want to do plural marriage. I kind of feel bad that none of us want to, but it was just not what we were meant to do I guess.”

“I believe in the religion and I believe in the faith, but I see how my dad does it and he does it amazingly. He’s very strong and very powerful and I don’t think I could do that,” Kody and Christine’s son, Paedon, said before his sister, Mykelti, added, “I’m not going to live polygamy. I don’t think that’s for me. I don’t think I could ever live up to what my parents have been able to do.”
