Seattle Seahawks Rumors: Marshawn Lynch Injury Could End Season With Seahawks?

Seattle Seahawks rumors about the Marshawn Lynch injury aren’t good. The Seahawks could lose Lynch for the rest of the season if a report from USA Today is to be believed. After missing the game on November 22 between the Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, Lynch is traveling to Philadelphia to get an abdominal injury checked out.

Lynch is seeing a surgeon who specializes in sports hernia treatment, leading to the Seahawks rumors about him possibly being lost for the season. If Dr. William Meyers does diagnose Lynch with a sports hernia, the Pro Bowl running back will have to go through a surgery that ends his NFL season. That could be a very big blow to the Seattle Seahawks as the team tries to make the 2015 NFL Playoffs.

With Marshawn Lynch sidelined against the San Francisco 49ers, backup running back Thomas Rawls got a heavy workload again. Rawls ended up rushing for 209 yards on 30 carries, making him the first Seahawks running back since Shaun Alexander to eclipse 200 rushing yards in a game. Rawls added 46 receiving yards on three catches and scored two touchdowns to help the Seahawks to a nice 29-13 victory.

Should it turn out that Lynch is lost for the rest of the regular season, it seems as though Rawls is ready to seamlessly step into his place. In 10 games this season, Rawls has rushed for 604 yards on just 101 carries. That’s an average of six yards per carry, which ranks among the best in the entire NFL. He seems very capable of also taking on a heavy load should it be a requirement down the stretch.

If the Seattle Seahawks rumors turn out to be true and Marshawn Lynch is done for the season, he would finish the year with 417 rushing yards and 80 receiving yards to his credit. Lynch has also scored three touchdowns in the seven games he has played, but his numbers aren’t where fans or fantasy football owners expected them to be in 2015. That makes it even more valuable for the Seahawks to have a player like Thomas Rawls waiting in the wings.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the win over the 49ers pushed the Seahawks up into seventh place in the NFC. That puts the Seahawks (5-5) just one game behind the Atlanta Falcons (6-4) for the second wild card spot. It raises the level of importance for games coming up on the schedule, with a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12 and a road game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13. The Vikings (7-3) currently hold the first wild card slot in the NFC, showing just how close Seattle is to making the playoffs again.

There are going to be a lot of Seattle Seahawks rumors in the coming week as more information about Marshawn Lynch is released. There had been talks that this could be his final season in the NFL anyway, but an injury like this might bring up talk of retirement. Lynch has made a lot of money during his NFL career, has a Super Bowl ring in his trophy room, and has helped Russell Wilson to elevate the Seahawks to a championship contender. He doesn’t have a lot left to prove in the game.

It’s possible that the tests in Philadelphia could come back negative and that Lynch could be ready to play again in a week or two. The worst-case scenario, though, is that Lynch has a sports hernia that requires immediate surgery. That would cause the Seattle Seahawks to turn to Thomas Rawls to carry the team into the postseason. He has played very well with Russell Wilson thus far, so it could be interesting to see whether the team could continue to win with him as the primary back.
