One Direction’s Harry Styles Wears His Mom’s Curtains To AMAs
One Direction star Harry Styles is widely thought of as something of a style icon these days. Last night, Styles and his One Direction bandmates rolled into the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with every hope that they would bag an award or two. One Direction certainly made a statement this year, as they lost Zayn Malik, completed another massive tour, and released their fifth album in as many years. Last night, however, it seemed that Harry Styles wanted to make a huge statement all of his own.
As One Direction arrived at the American Music Awards, the 1D fandom waiting patiently to see how hot the boys looked. Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne looked dapper as they all opted for traditional dark suits with dark-colored suits and white shirts. Styles, however, went for a much more flamboyant look and sported a white suit with a bold floral pattern. No one will accuse Harry of failing to stand out. It must be said that while Harry certainly stood out from the crowd, not everyone thought his look was a hit.
In fact, One Direction fans reacted with a degree of hilarity as a series of amusing memes compared Harry suit to an IKEA bedspread, grandma’s wallpaper, and his mom’s curtains.
Harry’s suit is reportedly by Gucci, and he matched it with a black shirt with a “Bolo” black flower replacing a tie. Style’s seemed pretty pleased with his look, but many One Direction fans were unsure about the idea of floral prints on a guy. Cosmopolitan pointed out that Harry’s suit bore a striking resemblance to the Alvine Kvist bedding set from IKEA.
Away from the catwalk, Styles and his bandmates bagged another couple of major awards to add to their already impressive collection. BBC News reports that One Direction were announced as winners of the favorite duo or group in the pop category. One Direction also bagged the artist of the year award.
Harry and Niall were obviously delighted as they collected their awards and they made sure to thank everyone they had worked with but, as always, the One Direction boys thanked their fans and described them as “incredible.” Interviewed on the red carpet, Styles admitted that he felt that One Direction’s latest album, the group’s first as a four-piece, was their best work.
According to the Mirror, Louis was also generous in his praise of One Direction’s fans as he joined Harry and Niall on stage.
“It’s absolutely incredible to receive this award two years in a row. It’s a testament to how incredible our fans are.”
The nights comedy moment came when Niall and Louis stepped outside for a few minutes, leaving Harry and Liam inside. It seems that the pair were denied re-entry to the auditorium for a time. A picture shared on Facebook by Louis’ mom, Johannah Deakin, showed the boys sitting on a flight of steps staring into their cellphones.
Thankfully, the boys were allowed to rejoin Harry and Liam in time to pick up their awards. After picking up another couple of industry gongs at last night’s American Music Awards, Harry and his bandmates have won over 120 awards in their five-year career.
Harry’s former girlfriend, Taylor Swift, was the biggest winner at the American Music Awards with three awards. Taylor avoided a potentially embarrassing run-in with Harry as she was not present to collect her awards.
