Kevin Costner Sued By Neighbor: Actor Planted Trees, Ruined Ocean View

Warning: If you’re the type of person who gets really upset over the stupid things rich people call problems, this article isn’t for you.

TMZ reports that Kevin Costner has engaged in a legal melee with his Carpinteria, California neighbor Rick Grimm over (to make a long story short) landscaping.

The upscale beach community near Santa Barbara is home to Costner and Grimm, the latter of whom purchased his home back in 2009. Reports say that Grimm purchased the home, located behind Costner’s mansion, because it’s a great beach property with good views of the ocean and coastline.

The problem is, Costner is allegedly a highly private individual, and planted various trees, shrubs, and other greenery to prevent anyone from seeing into his house. All of this lawn renovation has destroyed Grimm’s view. According to Grimm, he attempted to contact Costner and his wife, explain the problem, and ask them to remove the shrubs, but they just ignored him and planted even taller trees.

Also according to Grimm, Costner isn’t allowed to plant trees as per his contract. But of course, Costner doesn’t care about Grimm’s view. According to the lawsuit, Costner told Grimm that he wouldn’t “back down” and would “do everything in his power to secure his privacy.”

So what does Grimm want? For starters, he wants a judge to force Costner to cut down the trees. Then, of course, he wants $150,000 in damages for his own personal loss of enjoyment and an additional $500,000 for damage to his property value.

This lawsuit comes up just days after Costner won in a federal lawsuit case filed by fellow actor Stephen Baldwin after Balwdin claimed he was tricked into selling his shares in Costner’s oil-spill cleanup device.

Guess Costner isn’t catching a break just yet.
