‘Lost In Space’ Reboot Coming: 4 Other Series Netflix Should Revive

Lost in Space first hit television screens in 1965, and has ever since been a beloved on-again, off-again franchise that never really has managed to revive its former successes.

The initial run was three seasons, 83 episodes. That was followed by a 60-minute animated made-for-television movie in 1973 and a feature film in 1998. That same year there was a documentary entitled Lost in Space Forever.

After that, another failed attempt to revitalize the series followed, this time a pilot directed by John Woo in 2004.

The original series starred Guy Williams as Dr. John Robinson, expedition commander and pilot, while his wife, Dr. Maureen Robinson, was played by June Lockhart, the biochemist. Marta Kristen played the role of their eldest child, Judy Robinson, Angela Cartwright played the middle child, Penny Robinson. The youngest child, Will Robinson, was played by Billy Mumy.

Also, Jonathan Harris appeared in the role of Dr. Zachary Smith. Smith’s role is described as a Doctor of Intergalactic Environmental Psychology, expert in cybernetics, and an enemy agent. Major Don West, the military pilot of the Jupiter 2 was played by Mark Goddard.

As the Inquisitr reported on Saturday, Lost in Space now has its best shot at finding success as the latest of Netflix reboots.

It’s also naturally churned the discussion of what other classic series that Netflix should consider giving the reboot treatment. Here are some frontrunners.

Tales from the Darkside

According to IMDb, writer Joe Hill (the son of Stephen King) has been trying to make a new TFTD series for a few years now, but for some reason, no one has seen the potential — at least not enough to put in a series order. That makes Netflix a shoo-in for this sort of project. Of course, the horror/fantasy series would be a great fit for Halloween and since that’s already past, it’s going to be at least another year before that becomes likely.

Tales from the Crypt

Promise, this is the last horror suggestion on the list! It definitely needs to be done, though. The HBO version of this classic comic book property captured the spirit of the original with a nice gory, sexy, funny modernization. The blueprint for what makes this idea work is already firmly in place, and Netflix could have a great time with it.

Married with Children

Wait, what? Isn’t this already in the works someplace else? Well, yes, it is, according to E! Sony currently has the rights, and they plan on making David Faustino the lead with the promise that the entire original cast will be game for “doing little bits” in it. Why Netflix, you may be asking? Because Netflix isn’t beholden to demographics. They keep all their information close to the vest, and don’t have to bow to the whims of advertisers. MWC is the type of show that needs autonomy, and with the breaking down of political correctness, it could be the right place at the right time.

Batman ’66

DC Comics always seems to be a day late and a dollar short with their properties. While they’ve started to gain ground with some of their TV properties, the films still struggle, and with Suicide Squad and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice already looking like disappointments, they could use a creative shot in the arm. That’s why they should take a page from Marvel’s book and partner with Netflix on some original content. But unlike the Marvel deal, this can be a more experimental partnership that exists outside of their major TV/film universe. Think “Elseworlds” for streaming. First suggested property? A continuation of the classic Batman series — light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek, and totally fun.
