Disturbing Video Captures Dallas High School Student Attacking Teacher, Reason For Attack Sparks Outrage [Video]

Disturbing footage of a Dallas teacher being attacked by a student has gone viral on social media. According to the Daily Mail, the altercation took place at Skyline High School on Thursday, Nov. 19. The 16-year-old student — whose name has not been released — reportedly became infuriated with the teacher when she was corrected during a class presentation.

Instead of simply taking the teacher’s comment as a form of constructive criticism, she decided to take the comments personally. She responded by attacking the teacher, but this particular teacher didn’t just allow herself to be attacked. She actually fought back and defended herself.

Throughout the video, the student can be heard screaming at the teacher and making numerous verbal threats, but that didn’t cause the teacher to back down. The student demanded that the teacher let her go, but the teacher reminded her that she initiated the physical altercation. Footage of the shocking incident surfaced on Twitter shortly after the altercation occurred. Now, the video has been shared on several social networks.

Shortly after the incident made headlines, the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) released a statement about the attack.

“Today, a teacher at Skyline High School suffered minor injuries after being assaulted by a student. Violence is not tolerated in our schools and the student will face consequences in accordance with our Student Code of Conduct. Out of respect for privacy laws relating to both employee matters and student discipline, Dallas ISD will have no further comment on the matter.”

The most recent attack follows another incident that recently took place at Skyline High School. However, last time a substitute teacher was at the center of controversy for spewing expletives and making threats toward students and their parents. As previously reported on Inquisitr, students in that class filmed the teacher’s rant and shared it on YouTube. The jaw-dropping video led to the teacher being fired.

Although the teacher was criticized for his behavior, many social media users now question how teachers communicate with students. Are some teachers too brash or do they need to be strict to be taken seriously?

Due to the staggering number of teacher assault cases that have been made public thanks to social media, the American Federation of Teachers, which represents thousands of Dallas-area teachers, has also released a statement about the violence taking place in so many schools around the country. David Lee has spoken publicly on behalf of the organization in defense of teachers who are forced to deal with unruly students.

“Obviously, teachers should use the most restraint possible when dealing with these types of situations, but at the same time, a teacher does not sign away the right to defend themselves if they’re assaulted by a student.”

The student involved was arrested, but initially no charges were filed, but that could change very soon because the teacher does plan to press charges, according to CBS News. The teacher did suffer minor injuries but is expected to recover. No further updates have released about the case. The school district has also refused to comment about the incident, citing privacy legalities in reference to employee matters and disciplinary actions toward students.
