Lily-Rose Depp: Dad Johnny Knew About Her Sexual Preferences Before Anyone Else

Lily-Rose Depp recently revealed to the world that she is sexually fluid when she worked with an LGBTQ campaign, but her dad, Johnny Depp, said he knew before anyone did.

The Black Mass actor recently told the Daily Mail that his daughter is very open with him and they have the kind of relationship where she feels she can come to him with anything, including her sexual preference.

“She’s got thousands of followers on social media, and they were all taken completely by surprise. But not me. I already knew because she tells me everything–she’s not afraid to say anything to me. We’re super-tight and I’m very proud of our relationship.”

Lily-Rose posed for a photo for the Self Evident Project, which features 10,000 Americans who don’t identify as 100 percent straight in their sexuality. While he’s still protective of his daughter, Johnny Depp knows that Lily-Rose is a strong, intelligent young woman who is capable of making her own decisions. Where it gets difficult, he says, is seeing her grow up so fast. The 16-year-old has landed several acting gigs and is swiftly moving up in the modeling world.

“She’s been snatched up by Karl Lagerfeld–which is a coincidence, as he spotted her mother when she was the same age, too–and when I see her with make-up and all that stuff, it’s really disturbing, because she’s a very beautiful girl, and it’s all happening so fast…whatever she is doing, if she needs any advice, I’m there for her. Kids are going to make their own decisions, but I guess that the only thing you can do as a parent is to offer support. And I do.”

Lily-Rose Depp is active on social media, which earned her some backlash earlier this month when she posted on Instagram about the attacks in Paris, where she has lived since she was born. After a photo she posted garnered a lot of negative attention, she took to the image-sharing site with a plea for kindness, not just for her, but for the people of Paris.

“People were complaining that my last photo discussing the paris attacks was a selfie. If what you’re worried about is what photo I post to talk about the paris attacks and not the attacks themselves then you are very small minded. That was the last photo I took before the attacks happened. It is a terrifying and emotional night for everyone here in paris, please only express good vibes and love. that is what we need right now.”

Depp said in the interview that his daughter is very “together” despite her young age, and praised her for her smarts.

“Lily’s really together – she’s a sharp kid and one of the smartest human beings I have ever met,” Depp said. “Her becoming an actress was never my dream or my desire for her, but that’s what she enjoys doing, and it’s her passion and it’s where she ended up. And she’s got the goods – she can certainly deliver.”

Lily Rose recently shared another photo on Instagram that stands out in stark contrast from the others, which include snaps of her modeling gigs for Chanel; the latest pic on her profile is a school photo, which stands to remind her fans that she is indeed still just a teenager, trying to make her way in an oft-confusing world like everyone else.
