‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Creator Ready To Write New Spin-Off?

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter has said farewell to one project, and fans of the show hope hello to another.

Kurt Sutter recently confirmed that his FX TV show, The Bastard Executioner, will consist only of its first season as the TV show aired its last episode on November 17, 2015. To pay tribute to The Bastard Executioner cast and crew, Kurt Sutter took out an ad on Deadline and posted to his Instagram account to show his appreciation.

In an interview with Deadline, Kurt Sutter opened up about the difficult decision to end the TV show after a 10-episode run.

“I wanted that ad because I just loved this cast and crew I’ve never worked with a higher caliber of talent from top to bottom. I love my Sons of Anarchy cast and the people I work with here, but UK actors just have a different approach to the work and are not caught up in the machine of Hollywood.”

Kurt Sutter was aware that the series would end after filming wrapped for the final episode, but wanted to wait until the filming was finalized before letting the cast and crew know. Kurt Sutter elaborated on the final days of filming The Bastard Executioner.

“And so I was there in the finale, and I knew at that point the fate of the show, and I could tell there was no awareness of it, which was a bit heartbreaking and kind of beautiful. They didn’t know anything was coming and I couldn’t tell them. I just wanted to let them know now what an amazing experience this was for me.”

Now that Kurt Sutter is no longer involved with The Bastard Executioner, his focus will presumably shift to a Sons of Anarchy spinoff based on the Mayans Motorcycle Club. Sons of Anarchy aired its last episode on December 8, 2014, after a seven-season run. The show starred Charlie Hunnam as motorcyclist Jax Teller and Katey Sagal as his mother.

The show was well-received by both viewers and critics: it is the highest-rated show on FX, and Katey Sagal won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in 2010 for her portrayal.

As for the Sons of Anarchy spinoff, it will focus on a rival motorcycle gang, the Mayans Motorcycle Club. The club is based in Oakland, California, and its members are primarily Hispanic. Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter has so far not offered many details about the spin-off. As Maxim reported in August, Kurt Sutter was still in the preliminary stages of developing the show.

Originally planned as a prequel with a different focus, it looks like the new TV show will now exist in the same world or near timeline as Sons of Anarchy. One thing for certain is that while Kurt Sutter will be involved with the project, he won’t be the only person at the helm of the show. Wanting to ensure authenticity, Kurt Sutter is currently looking for a writer well versed in Mexican culture.

“The network is very hot on the Mayans project, and I won’t run that show. For me, this is about finding the right writer and the next thing I will be doing is sitting down and interviewing to find a Latino writer, someone who understands the world and the culture. I don’t want to just throw some white guy at it.”

While the Sons of Anarchy spinoff is still in its preliminary stages, there is hope that Charlie Hunnam will find his way on the show. As Movie News Guide reports, Kurt Sutter hasn’t ruled out anything when he discussed the possible Sons of Anarchy spinoff.

“Doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed.”

The Sons of Anarchy spinoff is still a long way away from airing, let along being created, so there is time for all of its elements to come together.
