‘The Walking Dead’: Carl And Enid’s Love Affair Discussed By Katelyn Nacon, Chandler Riggs

In the overwhelming march of darkness that is The Walking Dead, Carl and Enid provide a light side to the story since it seemingly focuses on a teen romance. While eating a raw turtle may be a turnoff to some fans, actress Katelyn Nacon seems to think there may be a chance for Enid and Carl to continue their love affair.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, the latest The Walking Dead rumors claim it’s possible Ron Anderson may put Carl Grimes’ life in danger during the mid-season TWD Season 6 finale.

Earlier in the month, Chandler Riggs and Katelyn Nacon hosted a panel at the annual Walker Stalker Convention in Atlanta. According to Comic Book, the two teens revealed that they had no clue they would be playing love interests for one another when Nacon was cast in the show. Love was in the air since a young man startled everyone in the room by proposing to his girlfriend on the stage.

Romance was not so quick on the TV show. In the story, the relationship between Enid and Carl had something of a rocky start. In The Walking Dead Season 5, Enid was very aloof and cold toward Rick’s son at their first meeting in Alexandria. She also bluntly ignored Carl when he asked if she did not like him.

Later, when Carl tries to follow Enid outside of Alexandria, they have a conversation in which Enid reveals she feels like the world actually belong to the walkers and that survivors are merely living in their world. In response, Carl touches her hand and tries to kiss her, but stops short. But, by the time The Walking Dead Season 6 rolls around, the two teens are seen holding hands while sitting by a lake.

Actress Katelyn Nacon, who plays as Enid in the TV show, explained how her character is feeling at this point.

“Enid wants to survive but she wants to feel like she’s living,” says Nacon, according to the New York Post. “These walkers are not going to dictate her life. Out of Rick’s group, Enid is closest to Carl but it is just a wait and see for them right now.”

That won’t stop fans from shipping the two teens. Part of the reason there is a hope for a budding romance is because the Enid character does not exist in The Walking Dead comic books. Thus, her role in the story is wide open, and it is possible the show producers may want to expand their demographics with long-term, teen romance.

And what teen romance does not have singing? Katelyn hopes her character is not given the axe in the near future, and she even discussed the possibility of Enid singing.

“I would like to see Enid figure out who she is and where she fits in this new world,” said Nacon. “I do sing on the side [in real life] but I don’t think they will have me singing on the show. Enid would probably sound like a screeching cat.”

Unfortunately, for The Walking Dead’s Romeo and Juliet, events conspired to keep them apart. After the Wolves attack Alexandria, Enid sneaks away from the walled community. Carl discovers a note left on the floor which reads, “Just Survive Somehow,” so he knows she left voluntarily. The love affair turns into a brewing love triangle when Carl asks Ron for help finding Enid.

“This isn’t for me,” Carl says. “It’s for Enid. Your friend.”

“My girlfriend,” Ron corrects him.

Needless to say, that statement is one of many reason reasons for the enmity between Ron and Carl. Enid has also been missing in action for several episodes, leaving audiences wondering what happened to the girl. A minor spoilers warning might be appropriate for this sentence, but it is believed Enid will show up this Sunday in TWD Episode 7, and Enid will help a certain someone by giving him water.

In the end, if a love affair between Carl Grimes and Enid has a chance, then Katylen Nacon believes her character will have to get over the fear of losing someone important in her life.

“People were saying she was so closed off and didn’t want to give anyone a chance. Enid does not want to let people in, because the last time she really got hurt is when she witnessed her parents being eaten alive [by zombies] right in front of her from the family car,” says Nacon. “So she’s really closed off … not wanting to get close to someone and then lose them.”
