‘Demons In The City Of Angels’: New Reelz TV Crime Documentary Recounts Los Angeles’ Deadliest Killers

Demons in the City of Angels is a dramatic new crime series that will premiere on the ReelzChannel tonight. The first episode, entitled, Screenplay of Death, is based on the murder of Kenneth McDavid, an aspiring screenwriter who was killed by “two old bitties” named Helen Golay and Olga Rutterschmidt. The crimes of these ladies were so notorious, their story has inspired a number of TV crime documentaries, such as Deadly Women.

On Reelz’ Demons in the City of Angels, each one-hour crime story will be told by interviewees who were involved in the case, as well as law enforcement officers and journalists, who will offer their comments about the cases. Los Angeles is a beautiful city where dreams come true for many. But, beneath that sheen of glamour lurks a gritty night world that is both intoxicating and dangerous. Some of the most horrific crimes have taken place there, and Demons in the City of Angels will bring you a new story each week of one unsuspecting victim who didn’t live to see another day on LA’s meanest streets.

Kenneth McDavid was a homeless man who had dreams of selling a screenplay of Rocky. Instead, he found himself without work and living in a homeless shelter. He thought he might have a chance of a better life after meeting a nice old lady who befriended him and offered to take him off of the streets by providing him with an apartment. For two years, she gave him a home, fed him, and took good care of him. But, Ken McDavid had no idea that the woman’s plan was to kill him, so that she could benefit from the insurance money. That’s what police say Helen Golay and Olga Rutterschmidt did in June, 2005. Together, they allegedly organized a plan to drug McDavid and transport him to a back alley in LA, where they ran ran over him with a vehicle, according to the Los Angeles Times.

At first, it looked like an ordinary hit and run accident until one tenacious insurance investigator found several oddities in the report. There were no automotive tools found at the crime scene, and the man’s tire was not flat. The investigator eventually alerted police, who connected the car used in the hit and run to Helen Golay. In the end, the investigation uncovered a deadly plot of insurance fraud by the two grannies. They cooked up a plan to kill Kenneth McDavid while they sat back and collected the benefits from his death. McDavid was not the only victim. Six years prior, another man died in the same way. Finally, a California jury found 73-year old Helen Golay and 75-year old Olga Rutterschmidt guilty of murder and sentenced them to life in prison. Since her incarceration, Helen Golay has denied many parts of the story. On a Facebook page, she supposedly released the following statement.

“BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT by Helen Golay — Paul Vados and Kenneth McDavid were not homeless. They both had alcohol problems and McDavid was a drug dealer who abused medication. They both agreed to have insurance policies, were both given medical exams by a nurse for the policies and signed documents. Both men wanted to repay me their living expenses if and when they died. Both men agreed to not use drugs or drink. Both men were introduced to me by Olga Rutterschmidt I never had any rubber stamps made to forge either man’s signature. These were made and used by Olga Rutterschmidt.”

To get the details on the entire story, tune in to Demons in the City of Angeles tonight at 9 p.m. on Reelz. Earlier this year, Inquisitr covered the premiere of Fame Kills on the ReelzChannel.
