Louisiana Bar, Reggie’s, Under Fire For Stamping N-Word On Black Woman’s Hand At Entrance [Photo, Video]

A Louisiana bar has come under fire for stamping the N-word on a black woman’s hand.

According to the LSU Reville, Taylor Ward, a freshman at Louisiana State University, went out for a night of fun with her friends on Tuesday, Nov. 17, but things abruptly went awry when they arrived at Reggie’s Bar – located in the Tigerland area of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, near the LSU campus. Upon entering, the door attendant stamped her hand with an acronym that read, “REGGIN,” a subliminal racial slur, that spells out the N-word backwards.

During an interview with Clutch Magazine, Ward recounted her visit to Reggie’s. Shocked and dismayed by the racial slur, she decided to inquire further with the bar manager.

When asked about the offensive slur, the bar manager only replied by stating the obvious but, reportedly offered no explanation for why the stamp was a racial slur. According to the LSU Reville, the bar manager only stated that the “REGGIN” stamp has been used one night each week over the past 15 years and that it was not intended to be a racial slur.

“The bar stamped our hands at the door, and shortly after I noticed that the stamp spelled ni***r backwards. I immediately showed my friends,” Ward told Clutch. “We decided to bring it to the manager’s attention. However all he had to say was, ‘It’s a stamp,’ so we left.”

“I was really shocked. What upset me the most is that it was blatantly disrespectful and it was obvious that the design of the stamp was intentional,” she explained.

The stamp, which actually misspells the name of the bar by one letter, has led most patrons to believe it’s exactly what the bar manager refuses to admit, although everyone is stamped, regardless of race; but, nevertheless, the bar manager adamantly defends the stamp and refuses to make any changes to accommodate those who feel offended, according to the LSU Reville.

Out of frustration, Ward decided to share the disheartening experience with the world. So, she took to Twitter with a photo of the stamp, briefly explaining what occurred.

The offensive photo quickly began circulating on the social media network and went viral days later. Although the tweet was removed, screenshots have also been uploaded and shared via Facebook. Needless to say, the photo has sparked outrage.

Although this particular incident has offended an overwhelming number of social media users, this is not the first time the bar has been at the center of controversy. In fact, some Twitter users were not surprised by the racial slur due to the bar’s history of alleged racial profiling.

Reggie’s, which proudly has a large Confederate flag on display, has been accused of discrimination numerous times. Check out some of the tweets below.

Just two weeks prior to the recent N-word stamp debacle, Reggie’s was criticized for its strict dress code, which allegedly targets African-Americans by “banning items deemed staples of black culture,” according to a previous report published by the LSU Reville. Reggie’s dress code was criticized following an ordeal involving Paris Tate, a 21-year-old, black gay man. Tate was denied entrance into the bar because of his earrings and shoes.

“I feel like they’re just letting in a certain stereotype,” Tate said. “If you don’t wear a plaid shirt and tight khaki shorts and boat shoes then you can’t get in.”

Although the bar manager insists no changes will be made to the Reggie’s stamp or dress code policies, both Ward and Tate have vowed to continue their efforts to be heard so no one else is subjected to the same treatment at Reggie’s.
