J’zyra Thomspon: 19-Month-Old Baby Girl Burned To Death After Siblings Put Her In Oven

Houston police officials have identified the toddler who was found burned to death in her home this past Tuesday. According to the Daily Mail the toddler has been identified as 19-month-old J’zyra Thomspon.

Apparently, the child’s mother Racquel Thompson left the toddler, along with her three other siblings between the ages of three and five, with her boyfriend while she went to work, but it was reported that he later left the home as well.

When the mother returned home from work the following morning, she discovered that not only were her four children home alone, but J’zyra had been severely burned. Racquel performed CPR but it was to no avail. After paramedics arrived at Angel Ridge apartments at 12:30 a.m., they pronounced J’zyra dead at the scene. Sources say that while the mother was at work, they were left with her boyfriend – whose name has been withheld – but he later left them alone to buy pizza and he “stopped by Walgreens to pick up a prescription.”

According to ABC News, the three surviving children were immediately taken into child protective services where they were questioned. One of the children told investigators on Thursday, that they were playing a game and put J’zyra in the oven and turned it on. After she was put in the oven, the child said that she began to scream and kick the oven door.

When the father of two of the children – both three – learned that the children had been taken into child protective custody, he went in search of them saying, “I need to know where they are, I haven’t heard from my children in months. I’ve been trying to contact Racquel.” He also said that he could have been the father of J’zyra but a paternity test was never taken.

J’zyra’s grandmother, Gina Dennis, who also lives at the Angel Ridge apartments, was distraught after learning of her death, saying she couldn’t understand why her daughter left her grandchildren home alone. She added that she “just got the phone call to come out here and find out what’s going on,” and that she was hearing two different stories. She went to say that you should “Never leave your child home alone. Never. She [J’zyra] was a sweet baby. This is unexplainable. I have no words.”

Before the children were questioned, other family members were desperate for information saying, “I just need to know what happened? What really happened? So something like this don’t happen no more.”

However, neighbor Miranda Oneil Johnson said that it was not uncommon to see the children unsupervised. Johnson stated that she would often see the children “With just a Pamper on, no shirt, no shoes or nothing. Like, running around.”

Another neighbor, Aisha Eason, said that the mother could have called a family member, a friend or even put the children in daycare.

“This is serious right here. There’s a baby dead.” Cynthia Dawson added. “No matter where she went, she shouldn’t have left the kids in the house by themselves.”

After the tragic accident, a relative created a GoFundMe page, asking for $5,000 to give Z’rya Thompson a proper burial. The page as already raised $17, though people aren’t so quick to donate. Mark Simon wrote: “Again, a parent breaks the law, child ends up dead, and they are on here getting rewarded for breaking the laws, and criminal acts, You’re the ones who left the kids alone, and now you are making a profit from it! Pay for you illegal acts/ mistake out of your OWN pocket! They need to closed this down!”

Although the toddler’s mother and her boyfriend were taken in for questioning, they were not charged; however, court documents state that “charges are expected to be filed.”
