‘Legion’ Datamining Reveals New ‘World Of Warcraft’ Item Sets, Transmogrification Details

Although the public Legion beta is not underway yet, World of Warcraft players are getting plenty of new information from the beta’s first appearance on the public Battle.net client. World of Warcraft enthusiasts at MMO-Champion and WoWhead are already busy datamining the available beta client finding all sorts of interesting information along the way. One notable and highly-anticipated aspect of Legion is the major overhaul to the game’s transmogrification system. Transmogrification fans will be happy to see some new strings for the upcoming remodel, as well as the new armor sets Legion will add to players’ collection.

WoWhead kicks things off with a number of global strings that reference the new transmogrification system. Clearly new UI elements will warn the player that using something for transmogrification purposes will make it non-refundable. World of Warcraft players will also be notified when they do or do not already know a transmogrification skin. There is even a string informing the player that they know the skin but not from the current item. The datamined strings also reaffirm that players will be able to set outfits for certain specializations, mark items as favorites, and even name or rename saved outfits.

While those details explain a bit about how players will interact with the transmogrification system, MMO-Champion previewed some of the new armor sets players can obtain in Legion. Although the previews are not final, a number of cloth, leather, and mail sets were included in the beta files giving players a picture of what kinds of armor to expect in the expansion. Two such examples show off rather interesting cowls or hoods that likely occupy the head slot on a character. Cloth-wearing Priests will seemingly be able to obtain a pulled down hood from Legion dungeons while mail-wearers should be able to loot a furry cowl from Legion dungeons. Many players would find both to be an asset to their transmogrification collection.

The upcoming transmogrification system changes were also detailed during BlizzCon 2015. As the Inquisitr reported, players were able to preview a few new UI examples of the system including a collection screen and an outfit screen. The World of Warcraft transmogrification system in Legion will also let players hide their gear in the shoulder slot, and anything hidden will be specific to the character rather than the account, like how hiding helms currently works.

Luckily, with new sets and items being added in Legion and 11 years’ worth of armor and weapons to collect, the revamped transmogrification system will also be account-wide. Any character on a player’s account can unlock skins for the other characters and they will all have access to pertinent weapons and armor for transmogrification purposes when the new system rolls out.

Blizzard developers also confirmed that reward gear from completed quests will also be available for transmogrification use. The rewards from previously completed quests will be included in a player’s transmogrification skin collection including the options that they did not select as their reward. Once Legion launches, players will continue to unlock new transmogrification skins from quest completion in the new content as well as content that they had not previously completed.

Battle pet collection and mount collection have always been driving forces keeping a certain type of player going in World of Warcraft. Adding a collection system to the transmogrification aspect of the game will surely motivate even more players to complete old and new content alike just for the thrill of adding a new set of boots or the perfect pair of pants to their collection. Not to mention, players’ bags, banks, and personally-owned private guild banks will see a vigorous cleaning out once the feature revamp goes live. Once a skin is added to the transmogrification collection, the item can be destroyed while retaining the skin within the transmogrification interface.

How many inventory slots will you open up thanks to the upcoming transmogrification system changes?
