A movie with sci-fi tones, Jim Henson’s Turkey Hollow, centers around a divorced father named Ron Emmerson, who travels to the charming town of Turkey Hollow with his two children, Tim and Annie, to visit his Aunt Cly — an eccentric little lady who maintains a farm. Looking forward to a bit of fun, Tim and Annie are shocked the quaint little town has no Internet connection or anything else technological for that matter. Bored stiff, the two kids decide to explore the mysterious woods out back. But, what starts out as just a faint curiosity, leads the kids to a wonderful place where they make friends with some furry, fuzzy creatures in the woods. The excitement revs up even more, when Tim and Annie set out to find the truth behind the legend of Howling Hoodoo, a monster that lives in the woods that no one can catch or find. Meanwhile, Ron Emmerson is going crazy trying to find his two kids, according to USA Today.

Jim Henson’s Turkey Hollow is just the kind of movie that the whole family can enjoy, leading up to the Thanksgiving weekend. Not only is the storyline unique and interesting, the characters are lighthearted and adventurous. The animals are nicely constructed creatures that play out well for a television movie. The sound quality of the animals’ voices and the echoes in the woods of Turkey Hollow are crystal clear. Visually, Lifetime viewers will get to enjoy all of the beautiful rustic colors of fall in the picturesque town.

The Turkey Hollow‘s character’s creator, Jim Henson, was no amateur when it came to animation and creatures. For more than 50 years, he brought us The Muppets, winning a total of 50 Emmy Awards and 9 Grammy Awards, according to the Lifetime website. Jim Henson was simply obsessed with fury animals and was glad to be able to bring his vision of them to fruition in the 1950s.

For those who don’t know, Jim Henson died at the age of 53 of pneumonia, stemming from a severe bacterial infection in New York City back in 1990. At the time, his death was national news and saddened many because everyone had grown up with his wonderful characters, such as Big Bird, Miss Piggy, Kermit, and Bert and Ernie. The actors — the voices behind some of his characters — showed up for his funeral, which they say was a wonderful and ‘whimsical’ event, according to an old article in the Deseret News.

Born in Mississippi in 1936, Jim Henson was a man with a great sense of humor. One of his most well-known quotes is the following.

“Please watch out for each other, and love and forgive everybody. It is a good life. Enjoy it.”

Despite his untimely death, his work lives on. Some of his works include, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and The Muppet Show, which was in production from 1976 to 1981. Be sure to tune in for the 2015 Turkey Hollow movie, which is based on one of his original characters and original stories on Saturday, November, 21 on Lifetime at 8/7 central time.
