Jacob Marberger: Missing Maryland Student Found Dead Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot WOund

UPDATE: Jacob Marberger, the 19-year-old Washington College student responsible for a shutdown of the campus, has been found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Marberger’s parents alerted local authorities that their son had come home and retrieved a gun before heading back to campus a week ago. A massive manhunt for Marberger, deemed “toubled” by his parents, ensued.

A hunt for armed student, Jacob Marberger, continues in the Washington College area of Maryland. The school was closed after the parents of the student senate leader alerted school officials that the 19-year-old has come home to retrieve a gun before heading back to campus.

The parents of Jacob Marberger also told Chestertown, Maryland, police investigators that their son “had problems.” Washington College closed last Monday morning out of an abundance of caution during the hunt for the armed student and will remain closed at least through Thanksgiving break, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The parents of the wanted student reportedly told the law enforcement investigators that Jacob said he was despondent about things happening to him at Washington College. A misdemeanor warrant was issued for Marberger last month. A police report was filed after the missing student allegedly “displayed” a gun to a classmate. Police and campus officials told the media that Marberger began having problems with others students in his classes over the course of the last few weeks, but did not elaborate of the cause of the probelms, NewsMax reports.

As previously reportedly by the Inquisitr, the parents of Jacob Marberger called Washington College area police after they had not been able to locate or reach their son by phone last Monday.

Michale O’Conner, a spokesman for the Chestertown college said the armed suspect had not been spotted on the campus, Yahoo! News reports. The gun threat immediately closed the campus as a precaution. Staff and students were told to shelter in place as dorms and buildings were searched.

Chestertown police are currently considering Jacob Marberger a missing person, according to a Fox News report. The Washington College student was reportedly last seen driving a green Range Rover. Students that reside in three residence halls on the campus have now been relocated to allow police officers to conduct a thorough search of the buildings. All afternoon and evening events were cancelled on Monday as well, but the search for the armed student did not turn up any leads.

Washington College is a private school, which has approximately 1,450 students enrolled in classes. The school is situated on 112 acres and was founded in 1782. The students at Washington College students reportedly come from 35 states and 40 different countries. The liberal arts campus is located about 80 miles southeast of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — the native state of Marberger. The school is surrounded by farmland and is located adjacent to a historic river town.

The missing and presumably armed student is reportedly five-foot, four-inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds. The Washington College student has “light skin and brown curly hair,” according to a WBFF News report. He was last seen driving a 1997 dark green Land Rover with a Pennsylvania tag beginning with JWY.

“Due to an abundance of caution the college has decided to close campus for the time being and asks all students and staff on campus to shelter in place,” a statement issued by Washington College officials said. “Anyone off campus should stay away from campus until further notice.”

According to a Facebook page believed to belong to Jacob Marberger, he became the Washington College Student Government Association Speaker of the Senate in March.
