Miley Cyrus Has Lost It At Her ‘Dead Petz Tour,’ And Several NSFW Pictures Will Tell You Exactly Why

Miley Cyrus has been quite vocal about deliberately trying to shed her Hannah Montana image over the last few years, and her public and social media experiments are a testament to those attempts. Sometimes eclectic, at other times outrageous, Miley has been at the forefront of what could be considered an embodiment of the pop music culture as a whole, but nothing — and I mean nothing — could perhaps come close to what she has been up to at her latest “Dead Petz Tour,” which opened in Chicago last night.

It is not the fact that Miley Cyrus wore less on the opening night of her latest tour — with her, we have almost come to expect that — but her performance last night was, as the folks over at the Guardian put it, a ludicrous attempt to get noticed and a “painful overstatement.” Well, if that is what Miley is after — making people feel amused and irritated in equal measure — she has, as sad as I am to say it, completely succeeded.

On Thursday night, Miley Cyrus opened her eight-city “Dead Petz Tour” at the Riviera Theater in Chicago, featuring songs from an online album she released in September, which contained performances from the Flaming Lips, a veteran surrealist pop band from Oklahoma City,. And though the album itself may have moments of consequence, and even some potency, the bottom line is that Miley seems to be on a ride, concerned only with ambitiously daft musical ideas and no means to contain the dizzying vanity that seems to have seeped into all her later work.

It became all the more clear with her appearances last night. More than music, it is apparent that Miley is interested in us noticing her body. And that would have been perfectly fine if she portrayed herself as a performance artist on a surrealistic vanity trip, but that is as far from the truth as possible. She claims to be a musician, and I am afraid Miley Cyrus’ performance last night at the opening night of her “Dead Petz Tour” did nothing to affirm that fact.

As the music journalist Mark Guarino noted in his “Dead Petz Tour” review, Cyrus basically brought along her stadium act and tried to compress it in the small theater that Riviera is, with really woeful results.

“The gorging of big-budget visuals didn’t complete any musical thought but seemed more intended for social media; each time Cyrus appeared onstage in a new contraption, you could almost hear Instagram groan under the weight of all those smartphone uploads.”

And that’s absolutely true. Miley Cyrus appears more concerned with her attempts to own social media, rather than accomplishing anything of great significance. At one point, the pop star came out dressed in a huge purple wig, hanging breasts, and a huge prosthetic penis.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the only bizarre outfit that the 22-year-old showcased during her opening act. Miley also dressed up as a giant sun at one point while also stomping around the stage in a pair of moon boots.

And then there was that absolutely weird moment when Miley Cyrus was seen suckling at the breasts of her child star roots.

There was a time when Miley Cyrus was a lovable child star who everybody adored. Then, as if almost overnight, she morphed into a bold pop star not afraid to take on the world unvarnished. Sadly, however, now with her “Dead Petz Tour” opening, the time has come where Miley seems intent on succeeding in her singular mission to override her popularity with bizarre, unwarranted and absolutely pathetic antics.

And it would have all been fine if only little girls were not looking up to Miley Cyrus for inspiration.
