‘Star Wars’: George Lucas Would Be Jar Jar Binks And Explains Severing Ties With The Franchise

George Lucas spoke his mind about Star Wars. It’s less than a month before the film debuts. Now, his criticism of the critics is profoundly expressed. Apparently, he doesn’t hold back when voicing his opinion regarding the space opera — in fact, he gets right down to it. Lucas said his own involvement would likely just cause problems and would not be a good fit for the film.

He spoke of moving forward and parting ways with Star Wars and talks with Vanity Fair about how he would not be able to experiment if he were to continue in the franchise.

“You go to make a movie and all you do is get criticized. And it’s not much fun. You can’t experiment.”

It was also reported by Vanity Fair that it appears Lucas had more of an interest in family matters as the premise for the franchise. In fact, George is interested in how Vader’s grandkids wound up. In addition to that, when asked what character in Star Wars he’d be, he decided to choose Jar Jar Binks.

In Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, it was quite obvious that this film featured one of the franchise’s most dramatic moment when Luke Skywalker made the discovery of what happened to his father. It’s also interesting to know how young Anakin evolved and what led up to him embracing the Dark Side. It seems that losing Padme was the final straw.

As one can tell, it’s more of a “soap opera” than a space opera, Lucas explained to CBS News. In a video interview, he expressed his thoughts on his own involvement in the future of the Star Wars franchise.

“People don’t actually realize it’s actually a soap opera and it’s all about family problems — it’s not about spaceships. So they decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, ‘fine… I’ll go my way and I let them go their way.'”

Lucas then likens his departure from the franchise to a romantic break-up.

“When you break up with somebody, the first rule is no phone calls. The second rule, you don’t go over to their house and drive by to see what they’re doing. The third one is you don’t show up at their coffee shop and say you are going to burn it… You just say ‘Nope, gone, history, I’m moving forward.”

Fans may wonder what the world would be like in the Star Wars franchise without Lucas’ involvement. Some fans may have been impacted by the outcome of him selling Lucasfilm to Disney and, apparently, weren’t open to using Lucas’ ideas. According to the Modesto Bee, he has no idea what’s going on with the future flicks.

Early this year, TMZ reported that Lucas’ his ideas involving Star Wars “were tossed out the nearest airlock.

Also, prior to Disney purchasing Lucasfilm, George had his own set of ideas for Star Wars 7 and even got the ball rolling, but Disney decided to not use it for the script, according to Cinema Blend.

Nostalgic Star Wars fans will probably love the fact that they are again using practical effects, just like in the original three. J.J. Abrams demonstrated this in his “Force for Change” video by debuting a costumed character in Abu Dhabi. He also did the same for the droids, including BB-8, at the Celebration convention in Anaheim, California.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuts come December 18 and stars John Boyega as Finn, Daisy Ridley as Rey, X-Men: Apocalypse’s Oscar Isaac portraying Poe Dameron, and Adam Driver as protagonist Kylo Ren. The film also features such villains as Captain Phasma, played by Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie, and Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux.

Original Star Wars cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, and Mark Hamill will be reprising their roles.
