Betaworks, Accelerator Group acquire majority stake in Twitterfeed

Betaworks and the Accelerator Group have acquired a majority stake in popular RSS to Twitter service Twitterfeed.
With the investment, Twitterfeed will offer additional services that were previously not possible without the funding. Founder Mario Menti had been running the site part time on the side, and will now switch to running it full time. According to Paid Content, Twitterfeed is currently supporting 170,000 publishers and 300,000 feeds
Both Betaworks and the Accelerator Group have invested together previously on Twitter related services, including bit.ly and Tweetdeck.

I'm sorry, but why is such a service necessary?
There are plugins for every blog platform I know that do this same thing, without being dependent on a middleman service. I just installed one today for myself to post to Twitter, after finally giving in.
Having a service to do the work of a plugin is pretty similar to paying someone to microwave your breakfast for you, when you already have a tool (the microwave) to make doing it simple.
