What Did Denise Richards Say About ‘Bad Boy’ Charlie Sheen Before His HIV Reveal?

Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen may have had their ups and downs in recent years, but despite their ongoing issues with one another, Denise Richards recently claimed she’s “always there” for her ex-husband. During an interview on the Podcast series, Allegedly With Theo Von and Matthew Cole Weiss, via Perez Hilton on November 17, Denise Richards opened up about her relationship with Sheen.

“Charlie, when I married him, he wasn’t a bad boy,” Denise Richards explained. “He was sober for almost four years. He was a very different person. His lifestyle was very, very different. He was a former bad boy, I guess.”

Denise Richards met Sheen in the 90s, but didn’t begin dating until a decade later, when she appeared on his former ABC series, Spin City. At first, the two appeared to be completely in love, and after just months of being engaged, they tied the knot in 2002, and welcomed their first child together, daughter Sam, in 2004. One year later, Denise Richards became pregnant with their second child, Lola, now 10, but just weeks before her due date, she filed for divorce.

Following his divorce from Denise Richards, the 50-year-old actor married Brooke Mueller, but divorced in 2011 after welcoming twins Bob and Max. Around this time, as he revealed during an episode of the Today show earlier this week, Sheen discovered he was HIV-positive. During the episode, the actor claimed to have informed Denise Richards, as well as ex-wife Mueller, of his diagnosis.

After revealing his diagnosis, Denise Richards’ husband dated a number of women, including past and present porn stars Kacey Jordan, Brett Rossi, Bree Olson and Capri Anderson. He’s also struggled with addiction, which Denise Richards claims she doesn’t hold against him.

“I have a lot of empathy for anyone that struggles with addiction. I’m not going to judge the choices they made under the influence. I can only judge the person I’m meeting and I think sometimes past experiences make who you are so I just went off the person I had met and gotten to know and fell in love with. He was very different.”

Even years after her marriage to Sheen ended, Denise Richards has continued to receive backlash for dating the “former bad boy,” as she called him.

“I was surprised how much that affected me work wise … I was perceived as being a lunatic and crazy. There are people that have [since] come up to me and apologized for drinking the Kool-aid … It was hard.”

While Denise Richards’ ex-husband continues to make headlines for his diagnosis, she claims their relationship remains strained at times, but still, she’s never going to turn her back on her former husband, and the father of her two oldest children.

“[It’s] up and down. I’m always here [for him,] but he’s an addict,” Denise Richards explained. “I believe we move past your sh*t. Don’t sweat the small stuff. For better or worse, he’s going to be in my life for the rest of my life so I personally like to keep the peace.”

According to a separate report, via Hollywood Life, Denise Richards was said to be concerned that her ex-husband would “self destruct” after revealing he was HIV-positive. As the source explained, Denise Richards was feeling that her ex needed her more than ever now that his health has made headlines, as was determined to stay in constant contact with him as he endures what is sure to be a media storm.
