‘Arrow’/’Constantine’ Crossover Revives Save ‘Constantine’ Campaign, Fan Petition Nears 50,000 Signatures

Fans of Arrow were recently treated to a Constantine crossover episode that featured what might be the last time we see the Hellblazer on TV. However, that might change as fans of the now-cancelled show have started an online petition in order to revive Constantine on a new network.

According to the Franchise Herald, the online campaign to renew Constantine began shortly after the character’s highly anticipated appearance on Arrow. Constantine (Matt Ryan) played a large part in the episode “Haunted,” which included helping Oliver (Stephen Amell) retrieve Sarah Lance’s soul and guiding it back to her body.

Apparently, his part in the episode reignited the show’s fan base, who quickly started a petition on Change.org to revive Constantine. Although the fans did not hold out any hope of the series being revived on NBC, they did target a few other networks that could possibly fund Season 2. These potential networks included El Rey, Netflix, USA Network, Yahoo Screen, and, of course, The CW.

“The dark supernatural TV series Constantine originally aired on NBC for one 13 episode season only to be cancelled. This left a very strong and avid fan base without any network for their show to call home,” the official petition stated. “Constantine needs to be saved by another network to give the fans closure. This situation would be a win for both sides. The network to pick it up will receive a boost in ratings and revenue while the fans will be able to see their beloved show live once more.”

Indeed, according to Culture Vultures, the show ran for 13 episodes before being cancelled by NBC in May 2015 due to low ratings. The show centered on John Constantine, played by Matt Ryan, who went about fighting demons, curses, and a strange thing referred to as the rising darkness.

Although the show was cancelled because of its lack of popularity, it still managed to build up a dedicated fan base. In fact, this fan base helped to create a rise in ratings during the crossover episode with Arrow. This ratings increase is one of the reasons cited in the petition why the series should be picked up by a different network.

So far, the petition has over 50,000 signatures, which it has managed to accumulate in as little as four days. This is certainly an impressive number and opens the door that a network might pick up the series in order to draw in all of these viewers.

Additionally, Constantine’s appearance on Arrow certainly adds a little more momentum to a potential renewal. Not only is this a subtle way for The CW to see how big of a draw the character can be, it also links him to The CW’s comic book world. With that in mind, it is possible that Constantine will make a few more cameo appearances in shows like Arrow and The Flash before executives make any kind of decision to pick up his series.

Whether or not Constantine lives to see a second season is yet to be seen. With all the support fans have displayed in signing the online petition, it would seem as though now is an ideal time for the show to be revived. Hopefully, fans will continue to get online and sign the petition, which is certain to gain the attention of network execs.

At this point in time, nothing official has been released on the matter. That being said, if the petition continues to grow in number over the coming weeks, then it is likely that someone related to the show will address the matter.

Tell us! Do you think that another network should bring back Constantine? Or should Arrow add him as a regular? Let us know in the comments below.
