‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Mayans Spinoff Poses Huge Risk To Kurt Sutter

Sons of Anarchy was a much-loved show that ended after seven seasons. Characters such as Jax Teller (played by Charlie Hunnam), Clay Morrow (played by Ron Perlman), and Gemma Teller Morrow (played by Katey Sagal) will live on in the minds of viewers.

But will they ever been seen onscreen again? There has been a lot of talk over the past couple of months about a spinoff to the popular Sons of Anarchy series. Entertainment Weekly first discussed the spinoff with show creator Kurt Sutter back in August.

Still, rumors suggested that there would be a prequel to Sons of Anarchy, but in an interview with Deadline back in September, Sutter set everyone straight on what to expect from the new show.

“I casually said I’d be open to doing something with the Mayans. It’s the same [biker] subculture, but it’d be interesting to see the influences of that culture and how it impacts the subculture we already understand. I would do a contemporary piece, not a prequel, and place it far enough away from Northern California that it wouldn’t step on the mythology that’s already been told.”

According to News for Shoppers, doing the Sons of Anarchy spinoff about the Mayans would be very risky, but not because the show wouldn’t be good.

“Don’t get me wrong, Kurt Sutter is good, really good, so it’s not a question of whether or not the show will be good.”

The problem lies in the fact that the Mayan spinoff has ties to Sons of Anarchy. The Mayans have had many interactions with the Sons of Anarchy members over the years, which means there is a good chance the Sons of Anarchy will appear in the new show. Fans are hoping to see their favorite characters make appearances. But these appearances will come with risk.

“No matter how meticulous Sutter is, odds are by overlapping the two shows something would get skewed and could compromise SOA’s history.”

If a spinoff might pose a risk to the integrity of Sons of Anarchy, what would a theme park ride do to it? Fans will have a chance to find out if they can make their way to Dubai in 2018, when Fox will open a new 20th Century Fox World theme park and resort. According to Entertainment Weekly, the theme park will include rides and attractions from many movies and television shows, such as Titanic, Planet of the Apes, Ice Age, Aliens, The Simpsons, and, of course, Sons of Anarchy.

News of the new theme park has been broadcast all across Twitter.

But will the Sons of Anarchy attraction at the new theme park live up to the show’s dark, gang-centered roots? According to Yahoo TV, there are a number of things fans hope to see at the attraction, the first of which is to have a media-based dark ride.

“Obviously, we want a media-based dark ride, which would feel like you’re truly immersed in the Sons of Anarchy: The Prospect game.”

Other things fans want to see in the attraction include an eatery/clubhouse, a spa, great merchandise, and bikes!

Whether or not the new spinoff and the theme park attraction will do Sons of Anarchy justice is something only time will tell. Regardless, fans will undoubtedly remain loyal to the original show and will be entangled in the storyline and action in the new spinoff when it comes into being. Until then, fans will just have to make do with reruns of Sons of Anarchy to get their biker fix.
