Tina Fey And Amy Poehler Set To Host ‘SNL’ Together

Looks like Christmas is coming a little early. It was announced today that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host Saturday Night Live’s holiday episode. Poehler and Fey will team up for the first time since their Golden Globes gig to joint host SNL. Their hosting duties will close out the year, as the two will host SNL’s ceremonious holiday episode.

According to NBC, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler aren’t the only two big names on SNL’s roster. From the line up it really looks like NBC is looking to pull out all the stops, especially during a season that has received criticism about whether or not it’s actually funny or relevant anymore.

While the sting of having Donald Trump as host may still hurt, SNL is looking to fix that with Ryan Gosling, someone who hasn’t hosted before, but seeing as he’s a forgotten star of the New Mickey Mouse Club era (think Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears), it will be interesting to see if he’s just as successful hosting the show as his fellow mouseketeer co-stars.

Chris Hemsworth is also set to host the show before the year is up.

As for Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, they both have returned to studio 8h after they left the regular cast.

Fey has hosted four times since she left her writing and anchor position on the show in 2006, while Poehler has hosted once since her 2008 departure from the show. Fey went on to star and write in the NBC sitcom 30 Rock as Liz Lemon, and has now moved on to writing and occasionally guest starring in The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for Netflix. Poehler went on to find her own success with a show on NBC called Parks and Recreation, which took its final bow last year. She moved on to Netflix as well, as she was in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, the mini series that reunited the cast from the cult classic movie Wet Hot American Summer. She also starred in the pixar emotional comedy Inside Out.

Although no one would argue that the pairing of Tina and Amy hosting SNL isn’t genius, because it is, their hosting gig is for a very good reason. The two have a new film coming out, a comedy called Sisters, which features the two playing, you guessed it –sisters.

The film is described as a comedy about two sisters who decide to throw an epic party before their parents sell their childhood home. This will be the second film they’ve worked on together. The former was the 2008 comedy Baby Mama, which saw Poehler as Fey’s “unlikely surrogate.”

The fact that these two ladies have great chemistry is no secret, but many may not know that their friendship spans 20 years.

The two met in Chicago at the ImprovOlympic and became the best of friends while performing in the troupe together. That said, it took some convincing before Fey was able to get Poehler over to SNL, as the comedian was hesitant to audition for the show.

As for the next 20 years of friendship? The two hope their children get married. According to an interview from Entertainment Weekly, Fey said the following.

“We have committed that we’re both going to wear peach to the wedding, I talked to Faith Popcorn about it and the trend is going to come around right about the time that they should get married.”
