FBI Takes Over Investigation Of Woman Who Jumped Overboard On Mad Decent Party Cruise

The case of the woman who went overboard on the Mad Decent Party Cruise has now been turned over to the FBI to determine what happened, and if any crime took place in the process. Kaylyn Rose Sommer of Charleston, South Carolina, was “observed intentionally going overboard” the Norwegian Pearl on the #EDM cruise featuring Diplo and Skrillex.

The Inquisitr reported that information is still scarce surrounding the details of what went on aboard the Mad Decent Party Cruise, where Sommer presumably lost her life. The ship was just off the coast of Cuba on its way to Cozumel when Sommer went into the water. A year earlier, Sommer reportedly got married aboard the same ship. Reports of Sommer being involved in a twerk-off on the Mad Decent Part Cruise have since been debunked.

The Orlando Sun Sentinel says that the FBI is now heading the investigation that started with the U.S. Coast Guard. The search and rescue that became a search and recovery has now been halted since Sommer went overboard on the Mad Decent Party Cruise.

“Federal agents were on hand at the Port of Miami on Sunday to begin an investigation into reports that a 24-year-old woman jumped overboard from a Norwegian Cruise Lines ship as it sailed off the coast of Cuba.”

As soon as the ship pulled up to port, agents met the ship. The Mad Decent Party Boat was billed as an electronic dance music cruise to Cozumel that promised a good time for all, but something went horribly wrong for Kaylyn Sommer.

“Sommer is the second passenger reported to have gone overboard from a cruise ship within a week. On Nov. 6, Bernardo Elbaz, 31, fell off the Royal Caribbean ship Oasis of the Seas near the Turks and Caicos.”

According to social media reports, Kaylyn Sommer had a daughter named Rylee, age 6, and the little girl was told her mother was lost at sea.

“According to Mad Decent Boat Party’s Facebook page, those on the cruise would visit Cozumel and ‘the Playa Mia Grand Beach & Water Park for an exclusive party that includes lunch on us, an open bar, admission into their water park, and shows from some of your favorite artists’.”

Music Times is reporting that the festivities aboard the Mad Decent Party Cruise were cut short in deference to the tragedy that occurred on the first day of sailing.

“The Coast Guard was called in to search the area where Sommer was seen overboard with a cutter ship and C-130 aircraft. They searched 1,300 total miles before calling of the search.”

The cruise liner, together with Mad Decent, put out a statement that a female passenger intentionally went overboard, and that they send their condolences to all who have been affected. They also ask that it is prudent to withhold assumptions until the investigation is complete. As of this post, no criminal charges have been sought.

When asked for a comment, the victim’s father, Michael Sommer, declined to speak at this time. For now, there is no motive known for why Sommer chose to take her own life aboard the Mad Decent Party Cruise, and what happened before she leapt to her death.

Do you think they will ever discover the reason why Kaylyn Sommer killed herself aboard the Mad Decent Party Cruise? Do you think they will ever find her body?
