Youngjae Of K-Pop Group GOT7 Dodges Disaster! — Narrowly Misses Stage Fireworks At Philippines Fan Meeting

In K-pop, the one boy group that is probably recognized as the best today has got to be EXO. Since their debut back in 2011, Xiumin, Luhan, Kris, Suho, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Tao, Kai, and Sehun have garnered so much attention with their unique method of splitting up their members for a Mandarin and Korean-speaking audience. The said attention has equated to increased popularity, one that was recently topped with a song collaboration with Disney to promote Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Needless to say, plenty of Star Wars Saga fans who so happen to be K-pop fans were ecstatic when Baekhyun, Sehun, and Kai showed that “the force was strong in them” in “Lightsaber.”

However, there are other K-pop boy groups trying their best to be on the same level as EXO, especially rookie group GOT7. The JYP Entertainment group consisting of Mark, JB, Jackson, Junior, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom are tapping into the Japanese fan base to make their mark with songs like “Around the World,” “Love Train,” and “Laugh, Laugh, Laugh.” They are also making numerous K-variety show appearances, which include Jackson being on the second season of Roommates and all the members appearing on the “100 vs. 100” special of Running Man.

Besides the aforementioned, GOT7 also does all the other duties expected of a K-pop group, including fan meetings. For one meeting, however, it would have been disastrous for one if its members. Reports show that Youngjae dodged disaster when he narrowly missed being hit by stage fireworks.

According to KpopStarz, GOT7 attended a fan meeting in the Philippines’ capital of Manila. They were performing their song “A,” when a sudden burst of fireworks at the front of the stage nearly hit Choi Youngjae, who is often stylized by his K-pop idol name of Youngjae. A video was uploaded online showing the moment the incident happened.

The situation looks quite dire for Youngjae as he struggles to the back from the sudden explosion of pyrotechnics. Another video, however, shows that Youngjae was okay after the accident. After regaining his composure from the fireworks accident, he gets back into the game and continues to perform for the GOT7 fans in attendance.

And if the above video wasn’t enough confirmation that Youngjae was a-okay after the fireworks accident, he made sure everyone knew he was via Instagram, as reported by AllKpop. From the video he uploaded, Youngjae shows his face was not damaged from the fireworks. Also, Youngjae wrote in Korean, “I’m okay” too.

In conclusion, Youngjae was the latest victim of accidents caused by hazards of performing live on stage. Earlier this year, Big Bang almost had a similar situation happen to them when Daesung and T.O.P. almost got blasted by front stage fireworks too. Luckily for them and the fans watching, Seungri pulled them back in the nick of time. Sometimes, the hazards may not be fireworks, but conditions of the stage itself in which outside shows may happen in wet weather. With that in mind, GFriend got plenty of attention for a live performance on a wet stage when Yuju and SinB slipped and fell a total of nine times during the performance of “Me Gustas Tu.” Soon after them, Sistar suffered the same fate, a debilitating situation for STAR1 (official club of Sistar) members since Bora fractured her thumb when she slipped and fell during a performance back in 2010.

The fan meeting in Manila, Philippines, for GOT7 and their IGOT7 (official club for GOTy) members was on Saturday, November 14, 2015. It was a one-night event that took place at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
