Julia Roberts Admits She Struggled Filming ‘Secret In Their Eyes’

Julia Roberts is a star in every sense of the word, including on the big screen and at home. She is working full-time and is a full-time mom, which stretches her schedule thin at times. Being a mom of three, Julia Roberts had a difficult time when filming parts of her new movie, Secret in Their Eyes, particularly the scene in which she, FBI agent Jess, finds out her teenage daughter has been murdered. She stars alongside Nicole Kidman and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Julia Roberts talks about how hard it was to prepare for the scene in which they find her daughter’s body in a dumpster.

“It was definitely not a day I looked forward to. You can’t prepare for that in the way you do other scenes.”

Julia Roberts also said the scene was harder on her husband, Danny Moder, who is a cinematographer and was shooting the scene from inside the dumpster.

“It was harder on him because he’s shooting and in the dumpster, and I’m his wife. It’s crazy.”

The trailer for the movie includes the horrific scene in which she finds out her daughter is dead.

As for being a director in the future, Julia Roberts told People she isn’t ready to add that to her list of credits. According to Julia, she is already a director at home.

“I would just never want to be that person. I get everybody out the door to school on time, clean, fed, happy. That’s directing a whole production right there.”

Julia Roberts also told People how it is to have worked on the movie set of Secret in Their Eyes with her husband.

“It was amazing. It was so great. He’s my favorite person on the planet so I love spending time with him and I love his work ethic. His point of view is really valuable to me.”

As for why she is so enamored with her husband and why her marriage is so successful, Julia Roberts spoke with Mario Lopez from Extra.

Julia told Mario that the secret to a successful marriage is simple: kissing.

As a working mother, Julia Roberts was happy that Secret in Their Eyes was filmed in Los Angeles, because she could just drive home at the end of her workday, just like the average working mom. Another film she has done this year is Money Monster, which was directed by Jodie Foster and co-stars George Clooney.

The filming for this movie was in New York. E! Online reports that Julia admits she has worked less since she became a mother, but she has been okay with her recent filming schedules.

“I’ve worked more this year than I probably worked in the last five years. We shot Secret in Their Eyes here in L.A., which was great and such a luxury and then I shot Money Monster in New York and that schedule was really pliable so I came back and forth easily.”

Are there any other Julia Roberts movies fans should watch out for? One more, at least, due out in 2016. Garry Marshall has directed Mother’s Day, which doesn’t just star Julia Roberts, but also some other amazing cast members, including Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, Britt Robertson, Timothy Olyphant, Jason Sudeikis, and Shay Mitchell. That’s a serious cast! Secret in Their Eyes is due to be released on November 20, putting it in direct competition with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.
