Nkemdiche, 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive end from Grayson High School in Georgia, made his decision on the second day of a three-day unofficial visit to the campus. The other colleges he considered were Georgia, LSU, Mississippi and Alabama.

Two of his High School teammates, defensive back David Kamara and tailback Wayne Gallman, have also committed to the Tigers, USA Today reports, bringing Clemson’s total number of commitments for the 2013 class to eight.

As a junior, Nkemdiche led Grayson to an AAAAA state championship victory and in the process was named a second-team All-USA player, recording 78 tackles with 18 sacks during the course of the season. In addition to his defensive prowess, he star athlete also tacked on 17 rushing touchdowns to boot.

From ESPN’s scouting report:

“Nkemdiche is one of the more promising defensive prospects we have seen over the last few years.

“A young man whose physical build looks of that suited for someone beyond his age as he possesses outstanding overall size and strength while still displaying room for some added bulk and growth.”

WLTX points out that although Nkemdiche has verbally agreed to attend Clemson, the school will still have to wait until February’s signing day before the star can make the decision official.
