Catherine Zeta Jones made the media rounds on Thursday, beginning with the “Today” show, where she talked about her new musical movie, “Rock of Ages,” which will hit theaters tomorrow.

The actress, who has seen hardship with her bipolar disorder and husband Michael Douglas’s recent struggle with throat cancer, told Matt Lauer that the movie was a bright spot in a difficult career, according to Gossip Center. The “Chicago” star stated:

“Any chance I get to sing and dance, even at home (I take). It was a quick fix for me I have to say, because I had to go down (to film) in three weeks. … It’s unlike in theater doing it on film because there are all those different camera angles.”

In the movie, Catherine Zeta Jones plays an ultra-conservative politician’s wife, determined to shut down the city’s wild rock club, according to IVillage. the 42-year-old admitted that she used a real-life congresswoman as inspiration for her role as the villain. She stated:

“I kind of had a Michelle Bachmann moment. She’ll hate me for the rest of my life, but I did.”

She also revealed that she loved being able to travel back in time to the 80s, but that not everything about the time period was great. She begged fashion designers, “Don’t do a retro ’80s look!”

The film, an adaptation of Chris D’Arienzo’s musical with the same name, also start Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, and Tom Cruise. Catherine Zeta Jones and the rest of the cast hit the big screens in the U.S. on Friday.
