Carmelo Anthony Quote: LeBron James Took All My Family From Me

A Carmelo Anthony quote is usually something that the media seeks out during a bad year for the New York Knicks. Reporters are hoping that he will show his frustration and say something interesting. Anthony did provide quite the memorable quote this week.

When taken out of context, it would lead many to believe that Carmelo was talking about his actual family. After all, marital problems have been rumored for more than a year between Anthony and his wife, La La. People have been dying for more information about that potential controversy.

The Carmelo Anthony quote is actually about basketball.

Back when Iman Shumpert and JR Smith were members of the New York Knicks, Carmelo Anthony formed a close bond with the two of them. That friendship caused them to gel together really well on the court. Along with Tyson Chandler, a great defensive center, Shumpert, Smith, and Anthony were able to lead the Knicks to the second round of the playoffs, something that hasn’t happened all that frequently as of late.

You don’t have to watch more than one game to know that Smith loves to shoot the ball. It would drive coaches crazy, and it would affect the rhythm that his teammates were trying to develop on the court. New York knew that they needed to get him out of town, but they also knew that very few people would be willing to take on the headache.

Fortunately for the Knicks, there were plenty of suitors in the NBA for Shumpert. He is a solid shooter, great defender, and good teammate. New York decided to patch the two of them together, in hopes that a team will want Shumpert enough to take on Smith and the stress that he has a tendency to cause to those around him.

That team was the Cleveland Cavaliers.

When LeBron James decided to leave the Miami Heat and head home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, fans in the Forest City knew that they were going to see a playoffs basketball game again. LeBron has the ability to carry a team on his shoulders, but management still wanted to give him a couple more pieces. They eventually found them in Shumpert and Smith, so a deal with the Knicks was made.

While the Knicks struggled and failed to make the playoffs, Anthony was forced to watch Shumpert and Smith get to contend for an NBA Championship with James. It is highly unlikely that Anthony would publicly admit that he was jealous of James, but winning a title with those two guys was something that he had envisioned at one point in time.

The Camelo Anthony quote might have generated a bit more interest before the NBA season started. Over the summer, a lot of people questioned whether it was time for Carmelo to leave New York City. The quote might have been perceived as a public request by Anthony for the Knicks to trade him.

Though they are just 2-3 in the standings right now, things are looking up for Anthony and the Knicks. Rookie forward Kristap Porzingis has shown flashes of potential, and new role players such as Derrick Williams, Kyle O’Quinn, and Robin Lopez have looked solid. That has silenced some of the chatter about Carmelo wanting to leave town.

Thanks to the Knicks being improved, this Carmelo Anthony quote will not be misconstrued.
