Scheana Marie Addresses Divorce Rumors: ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Star Admits To Marital Struggles

Scheana Marie and Mike Shay appear to be headed for a split after just one year of marriage on Vanderpump Rules, but in a new interview, Scheana Marie is setting the record straight, claiming that despite her serious marital issues on the show, she and Shay are now in a good place.

“My relationship has always been surface level on the show… [but] you’ll really get to see the first year of marriage and how much we’ve struggled,” Scheana Marie revealed to TooFab earlier this week. “A lot of the issues that you’ll see in the first month of the show are things that had been an issue last year that kind of got brought back up again.”

Scheana Marie and Shay were dating when Vanderpump Rules began in January 2011, and they’ve been together ever since. During season 2, Scheana Marie’s then-boyfriend proposed to her at the home of Lisa Vanderpump in Beverly Hills with the help of Scheana Marie’s friends, including Stassi Schroeder, with whom she’s since had a falling out. Then, during season 3, after months of planning for the perfect big day, Scheana Marie walked down the aisle to marry Shay as cameras rolled for the February 2014 episode.

In addition to her marital drama with Shay, Scheana Marie is also dealing with some drama with her friend Ariana Madix, who labeled her as possibly “fake” after she allowed Kristen Doute to celebrate her 30th birthday at the Andaz Hotel on the premiere episode of Vanderpump Rules, which aired later this week.

“[Ariana Madix]’s still one of my closest friends and I didn’t feel right inviting Kristen,” Scheana Marie explained to Entertainment Tonight on November 2.

However, while Scheana Marie didn’t go out of her way to ensure Doute would be in attendance at her ’80s-themed bash, she didn’t ensure she wouldn’t be there either. In fact, according to Scheana Marie, she “had a feeling” Doute would be there because she had sent an invite to her then-boyfriend, James Kennedy.

After seeing that Doute was present, Madix and her boyfriend, Tom Sandoval, had a private conversation at the hotel’s rooftop pool, and during their chat, Madix said she was feeling that Scheana Marie didn’t have her best interest at heart, and suggested she may walk away from the relationship.

“Those are the things that, you know, normal people in normal lives don’t get to see their friends say behind their back, but we film a television show and then six months later, I’m like, ‘Oh, so that’s how you really feel about me? Tell me more,'” Scheana Marie said in response to Madix’s comments.

Scheana Marie went on to explain that while she understood why Madix didn’t want to be around Doute, she didn’t feel she should be forced to distance herself from Doute, as Doute hasn’t directly given her a reason to dislike her.

“I mean, just because Kristen went in and I didn’t physically remove her from the building, it doesn’t make our friendship any less. It doesn’t discredit anything, and I feel like Tom and [Ariana Madix] are like, ‘You’re either with us or you’re not!’ and it’s, like, I can be with both.”

While fans will have to wait and see how Scheana Marie’s friendship with Madix plays out, the two women seem to still be close, judging by their social media pages.
