‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Prequel News: Is Kurt Sutter Ready To Bring Jax Back?

Devastated fans are still expecting a Sons of Anarchy prequel and the show’s scribe, Kurt Sutter, may have some great news to cheer them up.

In an interview with E! News, Sutter said the much talked about Sons of Anarchy prequel will happen, but not in the immediate future. A related post by the Inquisitr revealed the potential cast and whether a beloved character would make a comeback, but Sutter went into more detail about the impending return of the hugely popular series in a prequel.

According to several reports, the planned Sons of Anarchy Prequel will be based on First 9, about the life of the SAMCRO’s founding members, who wear a patch on their cut that identifies them.

“The First 9 were the founding members of SAMCRO. The remaining living founding members wear a patch on their cut that says ‘First 9’. John Teller was the founder and President of SAMCRO. Went head on with a semi truck and still survived two days later until he died. First husband of Gemma Teller Morrow and father of Jackson Teller, Thomas Teller, and Trinity Ashby.”

More than eight months ago, fans mourned the end of the FX’s hit series, Sons of Anarchy, and ever since then, they have clamored for more. The showrunners brought hope when they talked about spin-offs and standalone shows based on the original, and Sutter later talked about the idea of a Sons of Anarchy prequel.

“It’s something that we have talked about. It’s something that we have interest in. We are interested. I think the timing of it really depends on what unfolds. I think for me, and the network, it’s taking the next obvious and right choice and (The Bastard Executioner) is the energy we’re moving in now.”

The Sons of Anarchy scribe said he didn’t want to delve into anything related to the show immediately after it ended. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Sons of Anarchy prequel will not be based in California like the original series was, and will have a completely different “tone, pace, and storytelling.”

Entertainment Weekly reported the Sons of Anarchy prequel will be based on the Mayans, which was a group of bikers based in Oakland, California, and antagonized SAMCRO throughout the show’s seven seasons. Mayans run heroin factories and are involved with prostitution in the original series.

Sutter teased the prequel at San Diego Comic Con this past summer. However, FX hasn’t confirmed the Sons of Anarchy will return as a spin-off or a prequel yet. When the network aired the season finale last December, a whopping 9.2 million viewers tuned in with their tissues.

This is what Sutter told Deadline is his view for a Sons of Anarchy prequel in September, while discussing his newest (and completely different) new show, The Bastard Executioner.

“At some point I do have plans to hopefully do the prequel, which I do see as a one-off 10 or 12 episode thing where we begin in Nam and see John Teller and Piney and see how that relationship got created, and bring them back to the States and the obvious external dynamics that were going on with the country and the perception of the war and what an odd kind of perception these vets got when they returned home. And then have it be the development of the club, ending before we start to get too close to some of the mythology that’s already been established.”

While all the talk is that a Sons of Anarchy prequel is in the works, Sutter said he would prefer to do a contemporary piece far away from the story that has already been told.
