Portia De Rossi Lands Lily Munster Role

Portia De Rossi has just been cast as Lily Munster in the new Munsters remake, Mockingbird Lane, for NBC.

Rossi, who has starred in cult classic TV shows like Arrested Development and Better Off Ted, will join Jerry O’Connell on Mockingbird Lane. O’Connell will play the Frankenstein-esque patriarch of the Munster family and Rossi will play Lily, his vampire wife.

Eddie Izzard has been cast as the grandpa and Mason Cook will play the werewolf son. Charity Wakefield will take on the role of “plain” cousin Marilyn.

TV Guide reports that Mockingbird Lane will maintain the core elements of the original show but the remake will be an hour-long drama. The show, which is being produced by Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, will be an “American Harry Potter.”

Fuller said:

“We want this show to be an American Harry Potter… To have that sense of a magical world that you get to go to with your family and find stories told in a fantastical way that are instantly relatable. It’s an American Horror Story that the whole family can watch.”

Rossi recently chopped off her famous gold locks but Lily’s Gothic look may be a stretch for the “Arrested Development” actress. What do you think of Portia De Rossi being cast as Lily? Do you think it will work? Are you going to watch Mockingbird Lane?

I see the resemblance….good choice if it is about looks :)

  2. totally bad casting, no way she can pull it off.

  3. I do not intend to watch this show. Turning that wonderful comedy into a drama is so totally idiotic as to defy belief.

  4. I am afraid the records for remakes is very poor…they don't have the writers, actors or sense of comedy like the old days…The Fugitive was very good…all the others were poorly done and unfortunately poked fun at the morals and ethical standards that were represented in those times…we sure need them in this age of depravity and lack of genuine creativity. Maybe someone will one day make a good remake…

  6. Yvonne de Carlo was a seasoned and well to do actress…she had a great role in "McClintock" with John Wayne and Maureen O'hara. Several well to do actors plus again the writers…funny and entertaining with several good messages in the movie.

*gag* I liked the original Munsters, but I can't stomach a remake! Anyway, De Rossi doesn't compare with Yvonne DeCarlo, who was a classy actress.
