Three ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ Teasers Released — Details And Release Date Announced

In anticipation for the official release of the sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 Alice In Wonderland, Disney has released three tiny teasers for Alice Through the Looking Glass. All of the videos are only tiny slices of the whimsical action, but there are three different teasers to sink your teeth into. You can see the first Alice Through the Looking Glass trailer in the video above.

But the release of these three teasers is not all that Disney has given the internet this week. They’ve also announced the official release date, and provided information on new characters and some plot details. According to Coming Soon, the film will continue its predecessor’s trend of adapting Lewis Carroll’s famous books, with a few major changes. Alice Through the Looking Glass will again follow Alice, played by Mia Wasikowska, as she travels back to Underland (Wonderland). But there’s a twist. Alice will also be traveling back in time.

And, as one of the teaser trailers says, time is not on anyone’s side.

Along with Mia Wasikowska, most of the actors from the first film will be returning to Alice Through the Looking Glass. This includes Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. But there will also be some exciting new additions as well. Previous Burton and Depp collaborator Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing a new character named Time. His magical abilities allow Alice to travel to different points on the timeline of different characters’ lives. This means that portions of Alice Through the Looking Glass will actually serve as a prequel, proving backstory to various iconic characters.

According to Buzz Feed, actor Rhys Ifans has also joined the cast to play the Mad Hatter’s father.

The official IMDb synopsis of the film describes the plot.

“When Alice wakes up in Wonderland she must travel through a mysterious new world to retrieve a magical scepter that can stop the evil Lord of Time before he turns forward the clock and turns Wonderland into a barren, lifeless old world. With the help of some new friends, Alice must also uncover an evil plot to put the Queen of Hearts back on the throne.”

Disney posted the exciting news and the sweet, but brief trailers to their official Twitter page.

They also released two versions of the official promotional posters for Alice Through the Looking Glass, one featuring Alice herself and another with the Mad Hatter.

Perhaps the most vibrant and intriguing of the three teasers show Alice dressed in an ornate blue dress, watching a blue butterfly fly through a mirror. You can see the final eight-second clip below.

Despite Tim Burton’s success with the first film, Alice Through the Looking Glass will be directed by James Bobin. The script was penned by Linda Wolverton.

The full trailer is likely to release very soon, so keep an eye out for a longer preview in the coming weeks.

Some of the footage from the film was already released at August’s D23 expo, which also featured a surprise Frozen performance from Kristen Bell herself. Watch that here.

You can expect to see Alice Through the Looking Glass in theaters next year starting May 27.
