Jimmy Kimmel Will Appear As A Hologram In Nashville For The CMA Awards

When Jimmy Kimmel delivers his monologue tomorrow night, October 4, on his late night talk show, he will also be appearing in Nashville at the exact same time – in hologram form.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be in two places at once as he starts his live show from his studio in Hollywood. Kimmel will appear as a hologram at the Country Music Hall of Fame Theater in Nashville, which is close to the theater where the CMA Awards will be taking place.

Jimmy won’t be the only one to make a virtual appearance on that night, however.

Once the CMA Awards are over, The Band Perry will give a concert at the same place Kimmel appeared in hologram form. While they are performing the concert in Nashville, the band will make their own hologram appearance on the outdoor stage of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

This will be the second consecutive year that Jimmy has made a virtual appearance in Nashville while broadcasting live from Hollywood. Last year, on the night he would appear on the other side of the country at the exact same time, Kimmel introduced his show pretty appropriately for what was about to happen.

“Hello citizens of Earth…My Name is Jimmy Kimmel. I come from the future..”

After Jimmy told the audience what he was about to do, his hologram materialized on a stage in Tennessee. Kimmel, of course, had to make a few Nashville jokes, but after those his sidekick Guillermo appeared dressed as the original hologrammer herself, Princess Leia.Guillermo quoted the futuristic cinema franchise using Leia’s line from the movie, but replaced “Obi-Wan Kenobi” with “Jimmy Wan Kineebi.”

The reason that Kimmel was in Nashville as a hologram was so that he could interview the winners of the CMA Awards right after they won their awards.

Last year, Jimmy, who was live from Hollywood, was able to interview CMA award winner Kacey Musgraves, who was live in Nashville where the award show was at. Kimmel and Musgraves shook hands and high fived, though it took a second to coordinate it so that it looked somewhat realistic. Jimmy informed Kacey that her hair was trending on Twitter, then proceeded to try and touch her hair. After that, Kimmel “shrunk” the country music singer down to about a foot tall with the holographic technology, and the interview was over. As Deadlinepointed out, the hologram interview made it possible for west coast talk show hosts to get celebrity bookings on the east coast.

This year, Seth Rogen will be the first guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Rogen won’t have the honor of being “beamed” to Nashville with Kimmel, but those in Tennessee will get to watch the show on big screens in the theater where Kimmel will be making his hologram appearances, as reported by WPTZ News. In honor of the CMA Awards, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will have a predominant country music theme. Country music artist Jake Owen will be featured on the show, and Kimmel will do a special edition of his Mean Tweets segment, “Mean Tweets: Country Music Edition.”

If last year’s show is any indication, it’s safe to assume that Jimmy will be interviewing some of the winners of the CMA Awards while he is live from Hollywood, but in Nashville as a hologram. Taste of Country predicts that the winners will include Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, Chris Stapleton, Sam Hunt, Maddy & Tae, Keith Urban, Eric Church, and Little Big Town, who had 6 nominations, the most of those nominated.

Make sure to catch the talk show host in hologram form tomorrow night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! at 11:35 p.m ET.
