Hailee Steinfeld is gearing up to release her debut EP. Not only are Justin Bieber and One Direction releasing new albums on November 13, but so is the actress and singer.

Hailee Steinfeld confirmed the news on Monday afternoon (November 2) that she will be dropping her debut EP, HAIZ. Not only did Steinfeld make the announcement, but she also revealed the album artwork and full tracklist.

Hailee Steinfeld has already been teasing some of her new music on her Instagram page. Over the Halloween weekend, she shared a snippet of one of her new songs. In an a capella performance, Hailee is seen singing, “Seems like everybody here is speaking different languages.”

So, what’s the meaning behind Steinfeld’s new EP? In case you didn’t know, “Haiz” is a nickname that her friends call her. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Steinfeld says that her EP will give her fans an up close and personal look at the singer.

“With acting, I’ve never given anyone the opportunity to get to know me personally – I choose a character that I love and identify with and I hope that there’s something in there that someone can relate to. But with music, [it’s] putting my own name on my own story.”

Hailee Steinfeld’s foray in her music career was probably inspired by her famous friend Taylor Swift. The Pitch Perfect 2 star said that she was afraid of playing some of her new racy music for her friend.

“I’m nervous to play her anything. I’m nervous to show her any of my movies, but yeah, she’s very supportive. [Music] is always been something that I wanted to do. It’s always been a part of my plan and it’s always been a matter of when and now is when.”

She told Grazia magazine that she insists her friendship with the “Bad Blood” singer is genuine and authentic, no matter what people may say.

“I can absolutely assure you that each and every one of us genuinely support and love each other. I don’t know that I could be a part of anything that wasn’t real. Especially a friend group.”

But Steinfeld loves the “edginess” of her music, regardless. Although she admits that her breakout single “Love Myself” is a self-empowerment anthem, she’s aware of how her fans interpret the risqué lyrics. It has suggestive lyrics such as, “I’m gonna put my body first/And love me so hard ’til it hurts.”

“Oh believe me, [suggestions of masturbation] have been discussed. It’s been talked about. But listen, whatever the song might be about, and however anyone interprets it, that edge is what I love about it.”

Hailee Steinfeld grew up on Thousand Oaks, Calfornia, and is still friends with most of her schoolmates, even though she was homeschooled. She also has close friendships with Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland, Barely Lethal co-star Sophie Turner, and the Magic Bracelet co-star Bailee Madison. Hailee has gone on to star in several big screen movies such as True Grit (2010), Romeo and Juliet (2013), and Pitch Perfect 2 (2015).
