Jennifer Lopez On Her Biggest Show Yet, Romance, And Being On Top
Jennifer Lopez is a busy woman these days as she is gearing up to take on Vegas much like Mariah, Britney, and many other divas have done before her. Lopez is in the midst of auditioning dancers and vocalists to be the perfect complement to her sure-to-please show. However, it truly is the dance troupe selection that Jen focuses much of her time on, seeing as dance is where the triple-threat got her start in entertainment.
Jen recently spoke with Ocean Drive and is the stunning cover girl for the publication. She shared about her start up in the industry, noting her success as a dancer being the catapult to her successes elsewhere.
“I started as a dancer, so I have an eye for it. I’ve done it my whole life.”
Due to Jen’s keen eye for appropriate technique, she admits to being a bit more critical during the dancer-selection process and auditioning of her prospective dance troupe members.
“Sometimes other people—the music department or my management—might like a person, but I’m like, ‘Oh, they’re a little bit weak in this part; there’s not enough technique.'”
Lopez had her breakthrough role as a dancer back in the early 90’s as a Fly Girl on the hit show In Living Color. Yet many forget that she also was a backup dancer in icon Janet Jackson’s videos and additionally was shaking it on stage for New Kids on the Block at the 1991 American Music Awards.
As Ocean Drive notes, Lopez will be returning to that very awards show this year, but this time will be the headlining host of the event. Lopez has certainly found top-rung status over the decades and continues to push the boundaries by taking up residency in Las Vegas, alongside some other powerhouse divas.
Although Jen will be competing for ticket sales against the likes of Brit and Celine, the publication notes that her show will likely “eclipse” the others due to what the star is promising.
“I want it to be a high-energy, Bronx kind of block party. The most exciting shows make you dance, and scream, and jump up and down. I want people to really let loose. [Dancers are] bringing the story to life. So they’re an integral part of the show, acting a little bit, even.”
As for wardrobe choices for Lopez’ “All I Have” show in Vegas, which is titled after her never-give-up work ethic, the star has some definite show-stopper wishes. Ocean Drive relays Jen’s vision and what help she has enlisted to achieve it.
“Lopez is working with her longtime secret weapon, styling team Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, and calling on the same roster of designers that has kept her red carpet–ready over the past few years: Balmain, Zuhair Murad and, of course, Versace.”
Jennifer Lopez admits that fashion choices for her performances and events she attends are always a very exciting part of the whole process. She exclaims, “It’s like a fantasy. When you think of Diana Ross, Cher, or Barbra Streisand, it’s their costumes that became their signature.”
When it comes to the performer’s end goal, Jen admits, “Oh, I’m just looking to do the best Jennifer Lopez show anyone has ever seen.”
And what about Jen’s love-life? The 46-year-old is yet to have moved on fully from Casper Smart. Although the two are often spotted in each other’s company, the ex-couple have yet to verify that they are back together after splitting last summer. As Hollywood Take recently shared, [Lopez and Smart] have been plagued by dating rumors ever since their breakup, especially after they were seen kissing backstage at American Idol in March.
